Thanks! Literally just grabbed the data and threw it in a spreadsheet!

Looks like of the 10,856, only 279 were IV (2.5%). 97%  are NIV.  The lion's share are B1/2 (50% of the total). There were only 82 CR1 and IR1s combined in Jan 2020, and 93 K1/2 (They are listed at NIV).

There were a little over 2000 H, J, and L visas combined (about 19% of the total Jan 2020 issuances)

Which is all a very long way of saying that the backlog is going to be bad but not astronomically bad.

Very much hoping when my interview gets scheduled that it isn't cancelled! This makes me have hope.

Hopefully this thread is the right place-- I was looking for information on when the UK-US travel ban might be lifted and found a few articles citing a statement from Fauci about the ban potentially staying in place for months more

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/coronavirus-anthony-fauci-travel-ban-us-uk-vaccine-a9565841.html (I know nothing is certain!)

Spouses are obviously exempt but I know the embassy has been citing the travel ban as a reason they cannot process K1s....do we think that the lack of "routine services" is due to local conditions, or the travel ban?

If it is the latter, we might be in trouble. They should still be processing and interviewing for spouse visas since they are exempt from everything, but it is probably easier for the embassy just to give out a blanket statement that they can't resume services since travel is banned and leave it at that.

I think that statement is mostly saying...we are closed now so it’s not visas as usual because we don’t have enough workers except to to do a few spouse visas.  In May they only issued 12 immigrant visas,  9 spouses and 3 kids.

On the other side, the nonimmigrant visas were military, international organization and NATO. Maybe some doctors or nurses or health related. No K visas.

I think once they get rolling again, they won’t exclude K1s, but they probably have to prioritize essential nonimmigrant  visas as they get started. And opening may not be the entire work force all on day 1.

What do you think?

I currently foresee one of two things happening:-

1. The embassy will start to accept DQ’d cases from NVC once they clear the backlog of people with already scheduled interviews and people with cancelled appointments.

Or

2. The embassy will only start to accept DQ’d cases from NVC once they resume ‘routine visa services’.

Unfortunately, from what I’ve been reading on this forum and from the lack of updates on the embassy website, I think the latter is more probable. I read earlier that the embassy in New Zealand still hasn’t resumed routine services which, in my opinion, is strange given that I believe they are free of, or almost free of COVID. I’m not sure this ‘mission critical’ phrase holds much weight for those in the immediate family category.

I sincerely hope that I eat my words in the coming weeks and months and that my pessimism is proven wrong though.

Pleased to hear if anyone has any other opinions on the matter! Hope everyone keeps their spirits up and we can all be reunited with our loved ones soon enough!

This is my biggest concern, that even though spouses are "mission critical", they might not move from the NVC to begin with to let the process happen.

I was hopeful but now not so sure :(

Has the State Department said in writing that spouse’s are mission critical? I don’t read all that stuff.

Mission-critical immigrant visa categories include applicants who may be eligible for an exception under these presidential proclamations, such as: IR/CR1, IR/CR2, IR/IH-3, IR/IH-4, SQ, SI, certain medical professionals, and certain aliens providing temporary labor or services essential to the United States food supply chain, as well as cases involving an applicant who may age out of his or her visa category.”
