I called today and they said that they are in fact processing visas again, however, they are only working on student visas for the next 3 weeks. There is no rush for them right now.

How completely and utterly infuriating

Since the NVC normally gives about a month’s notice before an appointment, it makes sense that student visas would be filling the next three weeks because they are in the U.K. and require no file, medical or LND case number assignment. And they can easily ring up for an appointment.

Also possible is the person on the phone only knows about nonimmigrant visas. Usually if somebody talks to you on the phone, they are from the nonimmigrant side and don’t know much about what is really going on in the IV Unit. Some really weird info has been given before because the visa processes are so different between immigrant and nonimmigrant sections.

I don’t mind them just doing the student visas since those are super time sensitive (especially with ICE changing the rules every ten minutes!)

it’s worrying about NVC thinking the embassy is closed but probably  @Wuozopo is right that they just don’t have all the information at NVC. Whoever answers the phone probably doesn’t have intimate knowledge about each embassy because they are essentially the call center arm.

I’ll call NVC tomorrow too after my partner confirms with the embassy (never hurts to keep trying!)

I believe Travel State updated this as I am sure a few days ago this was showing 999 for students too - Obviously IV is missing from this list.

Y'know this all comes down to one thing - Clarity.

They could simply say they they are doing the student backlog first - *tumble weeds* and they they get shirty when you want to know something that the website URL they keep publishing on Twitter dose not state. As far as I am concerned they said from the 27th resumption of certain visa types will resume, hardly they case if they are not.

However with no official answer on that.. back to guessing or just keep calling them.

I am feeling particularly upset today.

Question is how long do we give it?

My husband isn’t chasing this ( a whole other story) I could in theory email

nvc and request they send my case as I have a conditional expedite but I was trying to be patient and reasonable.

I’m off work now until September. Ideally wanted to do the medical at least while I was off anyway. Urgh. They all need to be on the same page. And give a straight story

My problem is that I was self employed and closed down my business here in the UK back during 2018 when I moved to the US - Because of some issues I had to come back to the UK Dec 2018 and I have been stuck here since at the family home and finding it incredibly difficult to find work and of course Covid19 had to land on us. I had anticipated already being in the US as I am sure many did. It's already stressful not knowing if I will be able to get into my field of work for a while due to C19 but also being apart from my partner just makes it feel like hell. Of course we keep being told to look at the website for updates but after a while, which updates do you trust if the story seems to skew one way or another? Missions critical, if your visa was at the embassy already but the website dose not state that - just that Spousal visas were mission critical. Sadly too much false hope leads to my situation, and I am sure many others.

I know there is a pandemic, I have absolutely no issue with people staying safe. I just want to know that when they announce something, it actually means what it says.

Sorry for ranting, I am just at the end of my tether. I really want to see us all getting what we have worked hard for and deserve.

I think the best thing to do right now is to avoid looking at those website updates, step outside of this horrible situation for a minute and let ourselves breathe. I've gone through different stages of obsessively checking during the course of our process, but at the moment I'm in "acceptance" mode, because it became too detrimental to my mental wellbeing.

Those official website updates are too generic to take literally, and I've never bothered to call them because it seems fruitless with every officer telling a different story. I'm thankful that the embassy website has posted that they've resumed services this week, but to me, opening doesn't mean we're going to get moved across just yet, because it's not yet our turn since NVC arranges interview dates in DQ date order. The clearest indication that they are actually moving will be when someone whose case was DQ before ours gets a routine interview. Those are the updates that got me through the I-130 process, by keeping check on the Potomac group on this forum and the Facebook groups as well.

I know there are some people posting here that got DQ in March and April, so as soon as those guys come back and post their updates, or I see a similar update on Facebook, I will start to get anxious for my own case (DQ in May). Until then? We're still in the queue. We're in the hands of the NVC but they are definitely not the best place to look for updates from what it seems. People's stories on places like this website build a bigger picture than they ever can. Obviously it's a different story if you're expedited, but I try to ignore that information (I don't mean that in an unkind way) just because those cases have no bearing on how soon my own routine one can move. I have considered expediting throughout this month, but I just can't justify it in this moment of time because I wouldn't be ready to fly yet anyway.

Apologies if this sounds harsh, I don't intend for it to be, we last saw each other in February so I've had some really dark days during the last few months, but the best thing you can do is look forward and do whatever it takes to distract yourself and waste time so you can look forward and the next few months fly by. Have a clearout, sell some stuff, plan your goodbye party,  play videogames and watch movies together every night, anything small or big you can think of. I have to have a major clearout before moving, and get my cats up to date with their vaccinations, so I'm concentrating on that right now. I also have projects at work to do before finishing if everything gets approved. I'm starting to feel confident that those with the earliest DQ dates that are still stuck at NVC will start getting appointments allocated during August and September, and if they do then that will be good news for my case right as autumn arrives, so fingers crossed.

It seems that as you were writing this I was reading some of the other posts here and clearly becoming more and more anxious.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a grounded post, you clearly have had some time to think this all through. It was really helpful to read and to remind myself that we have done all the right things so far and even though there are ups and downs along the way, we will all get there in the end, hopefully not in there not too distant future.

Like alot of others I’ve been finding this all very difficult because my husband and I haven’t seen each other since last year and with a scare that he was being deployed yesterday, I was not in a good place today, but I can honestly say, reading  your post has helped substantially, so huge thank you for that!!

Things are absolutely so difficult but it’s so important that we look after our mental well-being throughout this process too! 😊

Thanks for your encouraging words and offering some well needed perspective with a healthy dose of reality.

Fingers crossed for you and your other half 🤞🏽

AMEN !!!
Obsessing over nuances of words, and timelines, and the whole shebang is a habit that draws you deeper into a dark place.  It serves no positive purpose. I hope some of your cohorts will follow suit and find some joy in their daily life and kick that habit of trying to construct a timeline. That’s always been futile even without Covid uncertainties.

Hello everybody.
So pleased to find this particular thread.
I was DQ'd April 10th so I think I'm pretty near the 'front of the queue' when it comes to scheduling routine appointments and therefore I hope a good test case! Ha.
As of today I'm still stuck at NVC and like you all, patiently waiting!
Fingers crossed for some news in the next couple weeks.
Thanks,
~Samantha

Thank you, best of luck to you both as well! To us all! That's a really long time to have been apart so I can't imagine how awful you must have been feeling. It really is such an isolated place to be in for both halves, and no one else around you can understand it or relate to it, apart from other people in forums like these who've had to deal with the distance. Sometimes it feels like you just can't escape that feeling when all you want is your other half close, this whole process has really done a number on my wellbeing so that's why I'm forcing my head forward now more than ever, because I know there's such a good future ahead, we just have to get through these next few months while we wait for the world to catch up with itself again ❤️

I hope so too! I usually quietly agree with everything you post in these topics because you obviously have a really good grasp on the processes and can see how easily people fall into the obsession of it. It's just so very hard to see the light in that dark place sometimes. Hopefully everyone here will look back on this in the future and give the same advice to those waiting, it really is so important to just let the process work while you get your head stuck into absolutely anything else while you wait.

Glad to have you here and good luck in your case, hopefully you get booked in soon. With such an "early" DQ date your progress will certainly settle a few minds in here as well!

Couldn't have said it better myself - we are all experiencing similar challenges right now so it is great to know that there is some support out there, even if it is virtual.

We just have to keep going a little longer and as you say, our bright futures are ahead of us. :)

My husband has been in contact with our local senator to ask for his help in following up on our case. His office has been excellent and jumped straight on to it and got in touch with both NVC and the US Embassy in London. The bad news is that as of today, NVC told him that London have so far opened up no new interview slots to NVC and are only focussing on the cases already at the Embassy.

That’s pure BS.there can’t be that many at the embassy. Someone posted stats and IV visas are in the minority. Doesn’t make sense. Unless they are taking the 3 weeks to clear the student visa backlog
