George Washington owned many many slaves, at one point he owned the most slaves in Fairfax County VA.  So it's time to rename the capital and the state to something more politically correct and change his face on the $1 bill and quarter to a mountain or animal instead.  Soon the mob will be trying to pull down the Washington Monument with ropes and straps...

What seems clear is that these venerable institutions have very little logic in their decision making process.  They selectively cancel out some names of “horrible” people, and I agree WW was not a good president, or a good leader, but then they maintain names of similar minded folks like E. Yale, etc.  So an active slave trader was not a “horrible” person.  Brown is a different story as it was actually named after an abolitionist although the family including his father and uncles were active in the slave trade.  Whatever these universities do is completely up to them, but hey maybe act with a little consistency.

This is from the OP article.

Calhoun owned slaves. But so did Timothy Dwight, Calhoun’s mentor at Yale, who has a college named in his honor. So did Benjamin Silliman, who also gives his name to a residential college, and whose mother was the largest slave owner in Fairfield County, Connecticut. So did Ezra Stiles, John Davenport, and even Jonathan Edwards, all of whom have colleges named in their honor at Yale. And then there is Samuel F. B. Morse, inventor of the telegraph and Morse code, who was not only pro-slavery but, like Calhoun, thought it divinely ordained and “benevolent.”

I can't speak for Yale, but I think my university has published guidelines on how they approach renaming of buildings. I don't think it's fair to say there is "little logic" unless you have looked at the guidelines themselves. Have you seen Yale's? I assume they are out there.

Institutions should have the right to remove whatever they want if they feel that person or name no longer reflects the people they represent. I just find it funny that there would be any objection to removing Wilson. He's long been pointed out as a horrible person, and furthermore a reflection of something one shouldn't be about or associating with. Conservatives pointed out usually that Progressives shouldn't be wanting anything to do with him and others utilized him into a bunch of conspiracy theories and reasons why anyone attending any institution having anything to do with Wilson was bound to be a brainwashed eugenicist with a NWO agenda.

I think it's indicative of the point I have been trying to make all along: that these institutions are very resistant to change, even when it is completely justified. Princeton is probably THE most conservative of the Ivies, both in small-c and big-C terms, and for them, having a former president of the university also become president of the United States was something they were proud about. The only way you can justify it is to sort of make the two offices institutions rather than about the individual who filled both of them -- like we talk about the office of the Presidency being greater than the person who fills it during a given time. But that requires much mental gymnastics to justify. Getting rid of Wilson's name should be the start of a general distancing from Wilson's legacy, both at Princeton and on a greater, national scale.

Ben Franklin owned slaves as well.  Time to fix that nasty $100 bill.

This is a perfect opportunity to rid ourselves of the nasty $100 bill, and other Dead Presidents of various denominations, by giving them all to the Oppressed in the form of long-overdue reparations.

Our new currency can have the august likenesses of Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Kim Jung Un, et al.

Cat who lost its Tail

A blonde was weed-eating her yard and accidentally cut off the tail of her cat which was hiding in the grass.

She rushed her cat, along with the tail over to WalMart.

Why WalMart???

Gray Cat

HELLOOOOO!

WALMART is the largest retailer in the world
