I've heard of Nate Silver but I don't know why he matters.

All I know is, these people don't learn very well, which lends less credence to stupidity/stubbornness and adds more to the litany of proof that polls are merely a psychological/marketing device aimed at galvanizing one group and demoralizing another. I will go with both in that it is a psychological/marketing device and yet they stubbornly insist on using them because establishment people in politics tend to be insanely predictable. Predictability builds trust, and in their twisted meritocratic environment, it causes other people to rely on that moronic system, which is why they want to see it perpetuated.

Ban Hammer, I am becoming more and more convinced every day that you are actually my dad posting on here under a pseudonym. This was one my sister and I heard all the time growing up.

This is an interesting post mortem Silver wrote shortly after the election. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-fivethirtyeight-gave-trump-a-better-chance-than-almost-anyone-else/

He admits they still got it wrong, but explains why they did. Silver isn't a pollster, and he gets stuff wrong all the time, but he does do a good job of showing his work and what goes into the sausage.
