Hey guys.

I did my medical for the K1 in January and it has just expired. I was supposed to have an interview in mid March but it got cancelled 1 day before the shut down. I'm very lucky in life indeed.

Before I call the embassy I just wanted to ask you all because probably someone knows the answer, do I have to do a new medical or this expired one could still be used/extended?

If you had your medical in January it is not yet expired as it will expire in July.  If your interview is after the expiration date then you absolutely need a new medical

YMMV

Medicals cannot be extended.  It will expire 6 months after completion.

At the day of your interview if your medicals is expired you will need another....I have heard that K1 petitions are automatically extended. However I still think you should reach out to the embassy and see what they have to say. Goodluck and do let us know so we can learn

You definitely have to do a new medical. When your visa is issued it has an expiry date, which is 6 months from the date of your medical. I just redid my medical as I’m waiting for my visa to be reissued

I hope you will start a thread about your progress and the steps involved in the re-issue process.  I'm sure this is going to be a very hot topic soon.

Yes, it is! Unfortunately at the moment the embassy won’t respond to any emails but I hope they will reissue the visa with a new medical, without making me do another interview.

I do know the experience of a friend who needed her K1 reissued because she couldn’t sell her house in time (this is pre-covid) and she had to pay a new visa fee and attend again to give fingerprints & provide a new letter of intent. She did say that they explained that she had to pay again because it was her fault. I was due to fly to the US just a week after the travel ban, so hopefully they will waive the fee! Interested to hear what others hear from their embassies!
