On the subject of Black Lives Matter, Ali said: “My father would have said, ‘They ain’t nothing but devils.’ My father said, ‘all lives matter.’ I don’t think he’d agree.”

“I think it’s racist,” Ali continued. “It’s not just black lives matter, white lives matter, Chinese lives matter, all lives matter, everybody’s life matters. God loves everyone – he never singled anyone out. Killing is wrong no matter who it is.”

“It’s a racial statement,” Ali added. “It’s pitting black people against everyone else. It starts racial things to happen. I hate that.”

Quote

“Black Lives Matter is not a peaceful protest. Antifa never wanted it peaceful. I would take them all out,” Ali continued.

Later in the interview, Ali praised President Donald Trump, said that his father would have been a Trump supporter, and that Democrats “don’t give a **** about anybody.”

I had the honor of meeting Ali when he visited the campus at a prior employer.  Glad to see passed down his wisdom to his son.

BLM is a cult with a radical extreme left ideology on pretty much everything, way beyond just "black lives matter". Couldnt support them in a million years. I find that most who do, don't even really fully understand what they're about.

This report is a bit dated, but I think most of it is still relevant.  Except for the name, the BLM movement/organization, not the idea, is simply an anticapitalist movement extending from the Occupy movement.

I think it would be helpful if Ali were still alive to say whether he agrees with his son. :) Especially considering the systemic racial injustice Ali himself faced.

People have images of their parents and what they stand for that don't always match up to reality. We project onto our parents images that we wish to see there, that validate our perception of them for good or bad. None of us can live inside the head of another. This makes for a great headline but it's just guessing at the end of the day.

I also thought that Muhammad Ali Jr. had been estranged from his dad for a long time when his father died.

Well, unfortunately Ali is not alive, so we get what we get.  That being said, if you actually looked at the BLM movement history and function, I could see where someone wanting racial harmony would not endorse this organization.

I think it's valuable only as a statement by Ali Jr on his personal thoughts. It's how he feels but it really has zero weight as to how Ali himself might have felt. It's as meaningful as gossip about what Harry and Meghan "must" be feeling now -- and those two are actually alive!

Seems like clickbait only and not news. Just my take.

Not everything. I checked the weather today and it's going to be beautiful here.

Seriously, there's hard news (like current jobs numbers) and soft news (cute article I posted about Canadians and Americans visiting in a park) and clickbait exists for both. If this was an article with a headline that showed it was about Ali Jr's own take on BLM, fine by me. But people click to hear about Ali himself, and there's nothing in the article about how he felt about BLM. Because we don't and can't know unless someone has a ouija board hotline.

For the record I also object to people putting slants on historical figures in general where the record doesn't match what the revisionist would like to be so. It's not limited to any political or philosophical point of view.

Well, a lot of the historical record is being erased now.  That is one big difference between the Left and the Right from a political standpoint.  Many on the Left want history eliminated or “canceled” either directly, or through some form of virtue signaling, and many on the Right want all the history out there, warts and all.

That's not really what I'm talking about. I'm talking about saying "oh, Charlemagne would have aligned himself with X" or "Elizabeth Cady Stanton would have been Y" when X and Y are positions that can only really exist in our current time.

Sorry, not really feeling like arguing today with the new EO. We don't know what's happening regarding L1 extensions and if they're also going to be cancelled.

Herschel seems pretty good too.  I remember Herschel's freshman year at Georgia.  I had just left USC (not the one in California) and was in my first year of dental school.  I didn't have a TV but went to the med school lounge to watch the Georgia - South Carolina game.  Of course everyone understood I had gone to SC.  Before the game there were the interviews with Herschel and our running back, recent Heisman winner George Rogers.  The interview with Herschel went well and he sounded like a pretty smart guy.  Then the God awful interview with Rogers.  Dumb as a box of rocks.  So embarrassing.  Guy couldn't string four words together to try to make a sentence.
