Hi there, was curious since embassies are closed if they are still processing petitions?

This question has been asked multiple times and generally all embassies were only available for citizen emergencies during the past 3 months. Check your embassies website for most recent announcements, since that is the most up to date information. Some embassies announced that they are starting to schedule interviews for specific visa classes, others remain closed.

I am not asking about the interview process as that will take place a few months after I submit the petition. But my question is about the initial petition processing once the application is initially submitted. are they still processing that now? Or is it all on hold ?

Ok that was hard to grasp since you were referring to embassies and without timeline other members cannot know where you are in the process/which agency currently has your case. If you are asking about I-130 processing at USCIS - yes, that is still happening but delays are possible since USCIS has been working with reduced workforce and is planning to furlough staff in July
