Amend tax return (filed jointly with USC) or not?

Hi all, my wife (USC) and I (GC holder) filed taxes jointly for 2019. But we just found out that she forgot to report a very small amount ($80) on that tax return (I reported all of my income!).

Do we even need to amend it?

If we do not amend it, Is it going to affect me in anyway in terms of immigration (ROC and N400)?

if the $80 was reported to IRS by the company (example interest on checking account) and they send to IRS a 1099misc,  IRS will correct the tax return.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my previous post.

1. The filing was done, we already received our federal and state tax return. So if there's any mistake, we need to amend it on our end.

2. The income was from Patreon and they send 1099-K. My wife didn't receive it because she didn't qualify for it (to qualify one must make $20000 or have 200 transactions, and this was only $80).

So she didn’t receive $80?

No, she did get the $80 from her side gig from Patreon. She did NOT receive the 1099K (tax form) because she didn't meet the threshold of $20000.

I guess what I'm asking is that is this $80 that we didn't report, is that going to negatively affect my ROC or N400 somehow?

I don’t think it has anything to do with immigration.

Your tax issue. I don’t understand Patreon and the 1099K. If she earned $80, she is supposed to report it whether she gets the form or not. If the IRS doesn’t get the report of $80, then they don’t know she made it. If they do get the report, the computer will catch it and in about a year they will send you a notice that you have an error and have their correct calculations. It will say if you owe any money and have you sign the form that you agree with their calculations and where to mail it with payment. Nothing bad happens to you.  That is based on what happened to an elderly man we know who got a late 1099 after he had filed and didn’t know what it was. It took a year for IRS to write and say he missed something and what he owed.

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, I don't think this will affect my immigration journey as I, the GC holder, reported all of my income.

If you filed a joint return, you are jointly responsible for it’s accuracy.

Good Day , hoping you can help me!

I am amending my 2018 taxes from MFS to MFJ as my husband arrive this year.

On the 1040x there is a check box asking about coverage of healthcare. It only has one check box to cover both of us with the question regarding if we were covered. My original return i checked the box as he was NRA at the time. Do I check the box again?

I was fully covered, but my husband was not as he lived in India and not the USA. I don't know if I am supposed to check this box. I read Pub. 519 and it says nothing about what do do for that check box.

Thanks!
