Hello everyone I got my Cr1 visa in March and due to lockdown I couldn't travel to USA until now. The border will open 1st of Sept but my visa will expire on 24th of Aug. There's only 2 flight from Mauritius to Paris or London but there's a ban on Europe to enter USA if am correct. Has anyone asked for an extension how does that work. I send a mail to US embassy in Mauritius which I attached to this. I send a mail to the south African  embassy am waiting for a reply.

Thank you

Regards

Vanisha

1. You may want to reach out to airlines directly which fly to USA. Connecting flights may not be subject to ban.

2. Follow up on this email response you received and contact the issuing embassy for your options.

I did a quick Expedia search and saw multiple flights that layover in non European countries like Kenya & Dubai. This one is Dubai ; have you been checking or only accepted what they said in the email? https://www.expedia.com/Flights-Search?flight-type=on&starDate=07/29/2020&mode=search&trip=oneway&leg1=from:Mahebourg+(MRU-Sir+Seewoosagur+Ramgoolam+Intl.),to:New+York+(NYC-All+Airports),departure:07/30/2020TANYT&passengers=children:0,adults:1,seniors:0,infantinlap:Y&fareCalendarPrice=&flexibleSearch=true . Connecting flights ARE subject to ban FYI. It is possible, even if the embassy gives you an extension, you may need to pay for a new medical.

Hi luckycuds

I had a ticket for 2nd of July which emirates canceled I did called they said there's no emirates flight coming to mru until the borders are open.

At the moment there's on air Mauritius flight landing Paris or London which is subject to ban even if it's a layover.

Yes I thought so I will have to do medical again & medical is in south Africa so I will have to travel south Africa just for medical which not fair.

The link you send I did my research too emirates is showing flight but they not operating in mru. This is such a stressful situation. 😭😭😭

That's pretty much how it works. Normally you don't repay the DS-260 fee (IV fee) however unless it's been more than 1 year.  But this is up to the consulate or embassy. They may require it to reprocess the visa but it would be unusual since you aren't interviewing again.

I’ve read a few articles that Dubai is operating with limited flights including to Chicago and more may be added in July. I would say since places are slowly opening up Look everyday; call airlines; make this your full time job. Putting in the legwork now will be so much easier than getting a new visa issued. The problem is we don't have us embassy to proceed my paperwork in mauritius neither medical so I have to travel to South Africa again and spend more money this is ridiculous coz it's not like am not willing to go they could have done exceptions coz the pandemic everyone got stranded. Our country doing exception for visa.

Unfortunately they cant change or forgoe the medical requirements for an immigrant visa.  I'm not saying it doesnt suck,  but this wasnt their fault either. It is what it is.
