USCIS Employee Harasses Teenagers in Florida

Lee Jeffers a USCIS agent has been identified as the white man who harassed teenage girls, one of whom was Black, in a gated community in Florida on Sunday. Jeffers told the girls repeatedly that they didn’t ”belong“ in the development, even though one of them lives there. He also threatened to get them arrested. One of the girls videotaped the incident, and the video has since gone viral.He threatened to run them over with a car and call the police and told them they didn’t belong there and needed to leave. The grandfather and his granddaughter are black. Is this Racially motivated?...do we have such people in USCIS?

according to USCIS "the video is certainly disturbing, and we are working to get all available information in considering what action, if any, may be appropriate for the agency to take"

This is sad. How can in 2020 one say these people dont belong to that area and they cant be there .

Not shocked at all that this happened in Florida (which is famous for gated communities, and thus reinforce an "us vs. them" mentality). 

 

I'm curious what action USCIS is going to take on this matter.

What I take from this mess is, that man ought to be thanking whatever deity he worships he didn't meet the pavement because he deserved it giving those kids **** for what seems like no reason (not knowing what happened before the video began), most of all, I'm proud of the grandfather for being the bigger man and showing commendable self-restraint while standing up to the idiot. Couldn't believe after that he put his arm out to shake the grandfather's hand. Just died there.  If he's never had his *** kicked it must be some kind of statistical miracle. 

 

But what I don't agree at all with the reflexive response to want the person destroyed at their job and ruin their livelihood when this had nothing to do with it. This mirrors mob justice and is just as toxic. Just had an illustration of what it's like to be the bigger person. Learn from the grandfather. Socially, he's already toast.

@millefleur I dont even think it has  anything to do with the mentality of folks living in gated communities. The Mr was clearly out of line...he was not supposed to act that way to them kids or even say the things he did ...its just down right unkind and does not speak well 

 

@Burnt Reynolds my od lord you are really burnt!! ...Yes I agree he damn right deserved more than he got...The kids grandfather is a gentleman. however I dont agree with your talk of destroying his Job as the man himself in the bid to prove his point identified himself as a USCIS official...If he lost his Job he did it to himself

No doubt he deserves the social scrutiny and flogging he gets but the idea that someone doing or saying something stupid/offensive ruining their livelihood can be arbitrarily applied to anyone at any time. It's not at all conducive to justice nor fairness, which are paramount to even having a peaceful society. 

 

For perspective, look at this versus actual crimes. The guy yelled at girls. He's already paying and still going to pay a serious price socially, if he even has a social life. He's lucky he didn't get floored, because he'd deserve it. But that's it. Destroying someone's livelihood over that is ridiculously disproportionate to what occurred. This is also why we have a justice system and long rejected Lord of the Flies type mob rule, mobs are neither wise nor fair. These rules, while written for the government, aren't meant just for government, they're principles for all Americans to live by in general, for how we live in a civilized society. It's ever more important to remember what made the US so great in a time where people are gleefully trying to trainwreck everything. The worst thing to do is get caught up in the reflexive madness.
