OPT/F1 visa grace days coming to end and home country is closed

Hello, 

 

Asking for my significant other. He is from Africa and his home country is closed due to COVID-19.  He was on F1/OPT and his grace period 60 days is coming to an end on July 15th. He can’t go back to Africa (Mauritania) because they have the borders closed. 
 

can someone please advise on what can be done. Your help is very very appreciated! Thankyou

The problem is he need to make a flight through Paris transit and they are not taking flights either. Trying to also understand is the US government offering something to extend the grace period in any way?

Flights to Paris are operating (I work for an airline). Has he contacted the embassy to ask about repatriation?

He should be fine just needs to buy the tickets, have a safe journey.

His tickets to Mauritania keep getting cancelled. He can buy it but then they say the transit flights can’t make it. He also has a pending h1-b visa, will filing for I-539 have any impact on his already pending application?
