Im filling out the I-129f, the application is asking for a previous A number. This is my 2nd petition, the 1st was approved but the marriage ended in divorce years ago. How important is it for me to get that number?

The A-number is for the beneficiary, so unless you petition for the same person or you are the beneficiary of the first k-1, you don't need it.

If you personally have an A# (asked in the "information about you" section) then enter it otherwise move to SSN and add it. If your beneficiary has never had an A# (asked in the "information about your beneficiary section) assigned, then leave it blank and move on. Read the information literally and you will get through it. Guessing at what they want will end in confusion. Good luck and stay engaged.

Wrong section.

If you answer "yes" to Part 1, Question 43, then you are asked to answer Questions 44 to 47.  Question 44 specifically asks for the A number of the prior beneficiary of any previous petitions.

My bad. I didn't see that question at 43 as the OP didn't indicate where he was in the I-129f, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) form where he was confused. Thanks for the heads up.

You may not always remember that little section unless you have actually had to fill it in yourself.  :)

As you are aware, us old geezers filled entirely different documents when we went through this process. Can you remember when the DS-160 was created to combine three other forms (DS-156 was one of the replaced forms).
