I think it is definitely specific to the country you came from and where you moved to in the USA but I can tell you some things for my husband-

Hard things to get use to- navigating the grocery store, the winter, having electricity 24/7, not leaving the house much/walking around the "community", not being able to see or talk to his family often (maybe sees them 1x a year) and unfriendly & judgmental people

While waiting for a work permit- bing watched Netflix 🙃

My experience settling down was mainly the difference in education system.  Most of the English speaking countries in the world follow the Bristish English standard e.g how words are spell and pronounce.  You will notice lot of difference on those.  However,  one just have to learn and adjust quick.

However,  like any other country,  we all have different accent, i was first annoyed when i was told, where you from? After few months, someone told me you have a nice accent. To me the definition of accent means something else. Because I believe we all , regardless of where you live have a different accents. I can differentiate the west coast accent and the southern accent.

the winter

It's quite funny how the weather affects different people; I haven't moved yet but I did live there for three months, it was the middle of winter and the Texas heat was still 100x worse than anything I had ever experienced lol, I turned to my wife and said "how am I going to get used to this"

Haha yes, my husband is from the Caribbean where people wear winter hats and sweaters at 80 degrees (NO joke- and I’m over there looking at them and it’s making me sweat haha) . His first winter here was brutal- the date we got married ended in a blizzard (3+ feet of snow) And we had storm after storm that year. Thank GOD for Netflix! Not only did we have the heat set high we had a personal heater for him as well. He really appreciates “winter socks” for Christmas lol

i should also add having to have a wardrobe for 4 seasons was new to him as well.
