I work with a former police officer who is non white. He was outraged at what was done to George Floyd. He said immediately that the office who put his knee on the neck as well as those who did nothing should all go to Prison.

His take on the Atlanta shooting.  100% Justified without a shadow of a doubt. He seems to think  the cop who got fired has a very strong lawsuit, as the shooting checked off every box for Justified.  As he pointed out when you try to incapacitate a cop , its justified.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms addressed the issue in an appearance on CNN Wednesday night, saying that she didn’t have an exact count of the officers who had called out.

“What I do know is that we do have enough officers to cover us through the night,” she said. “And our streets won’t be any less safe because of the number of officers who called out.”

When CNN host Chris Cuomo pressed her for more details, she said that the city could receive additional law enforcement help from county and state agencies and added that she was concerned about repairing morale among officers.

Confirmed: On-Duty Atlanta Police Officers Are Walking Off Job

The Police Tribune has confirmed that the walkout is real.

“We don’t know the exact number – I’ve heard different stories. But we’ve heard that in at least three zones, the officers have actually walked out – we don’t know the number. We‘ve heard that in one precinct, the officers are in the precinct building but will not come out unless an officer calls for assistance,” Champion told The Police Tribune.

“We are also hearing that some precincts are reporting that officers are just sitting in their POVs [personally-owned vehicles] in the parking lot,” Champion said. “The other thing is the city has already tried to reach out that I know of to two counties right adjacent to us – Cobb County and Gwinnett County – and those counties have said no, they won’t help. They’re not going to put their officers at risk of being fired or arrested.”

No doubt. The dip**** DA said Rolfe kicked RB, when the video everyone has access to sees Rolfe administering CPR and pleading with RB repeatedly to "keep breathing".

The same DA earlier said a taser is a deadly weapon under GA law. Regardless of that, we know what firing an incapacitating weapon at a pursuing officer they just attacked justifies them to do.

No intent to murder before, during, or after. Nothing at all.

There's no chance of murder here, they know it, we know it. Yet, even though we know the justice system will exonerate Rolfe/Brosnan of these charges, because they were doing their job, the long term damage of defaming their own force, and the toxic methodology of corrupt/moronic leadership hanging their officers, will resonate in these regions, no self-respecting person will be an officer. Good cops are already walking off the job. I'd do the same. Screw these people.

Really unfortunate they're catering to people who don't give a flying you-know-what about the law. There is no positive outcome.

I don't think he should have shot him.  But then again I am not a cop and have never been in this position so I don't know what I would have done.  But I do know they are talking about the death penalty in this case and I do NOT think that is warranted.  As for jail time, I don't know.  The guy did shoot the taser at the cop.  I would not want to be on this jury if it goes to trial.

I completely agree with you on all these points. I have read that the taser had been used twice already and so could not be used again in a way that would make the cop fear for his life at that distance (since it no longer could be fired and was just an inert object), and the cop would have known this. It's like someone stealing a water gun off of you and then pointing it at you and firing it -- you know it isn't a deadly weapon, so you don't get to use deadly force to protect yourself.

Murder I'm not sure about and I don't pretend to be a lawyer. (I'm only a lawyer's kid!) But they had this guy's details, they had his car, he had a weapon that they knew was useless by that point. Why shoot him? I hope more information will come out. I don't pretend to know enough right now to say this was right or wrong, and I think it's a more grey area than with George Floyd. I put my faith in the process, since that's the best we can do right now.

How do you prove the cop actually knew the Taser was inoperative?  What you are suggesting is that it is ok to assault a cop, and the cops should just take it.  I am sure Mr. Brooks would have been much more cooperative next time.

All I was saying was repeating what the DA has said. Of course it is now up to the state to prove that he knew it. We can't look into his brain of course, but there may be things that show that he should have known it was discharged. I am not familiar with what happens, but do police officers have to mark down every time they discharge a Taser? Something like that could show he knew.

Again I said I don't really know, and I think there is a lot of grey area here. My first thoughts when I heard this news were that the shooting was justified and the cop should not have been fired. But now I'm not sure. I'm open to hearing what is said on both sides.
