I think the cop was justified in this one. This kind of reaction to a Justified shooting detracts from whatever message that is trying to be delivered

I agree with you, however, I believe the mayor might be quick to react to this in this manner to protect her potential Vice Presidential run.

He resisted arrest and took the officers weapon. That leads to bad things. This scenario is the polar opposite of what happened to George Floyd. Brooks didn't deserve to die, but his foolish actions are what lead to that happening.

This circumstance is a run of the mill type of incident where officers need to discharge their weapons, regardless of the suspect's race. These sort of incidents rarely get much attention, but because it serves as potential bait for people looking for a reason to torch some buildings, it got a lot more coverage.

Agreed on the fact that this and Floyd's are in complete contrast to one another. While Floyd might have resisted arrest (I haven't seen proof he didn't), there was still clearly no threat justifying his death. It's why Chauvin is rightfully facing murder charges. This case is basically a Michael Brown suicide by cop situation. Resisting+attacking+grabbing a cop's weapon is a pretty elementary way to shorten one's lifespan. Thankfully the police preempted any sort of similar "hands up don't shoot" media induced chaos and immediately released a video of the incident. I think it would be wise for any police force to readily implement a policy of releasing videos immediately upon any incident involving an officer where a death occurs. Would go a long way in regards to transparency, trust, etc.

Well they are saying the taser he took was not a deadly weapon. However had incapacitated the officer he could have taken his weapon and killed him.

The fake news keeps saying, he feel asleep at a drive thru. He was drunk as a skunk.

No, the fake news media is saying that he was asleep in and parked. So basically making it sound like he was in a parking space when Wendy's called the police on him. I even saw someone say "Why didn't Wendy's workers wake him up and tell him to go home". After seeing the aftermath of seeing a drunk driver hit a car head on I have no sympathy for these people at all.

I think once it reaches a point where a subject wrangles an officer's weapon away, there's a limited outcome of where it's going to go and don't think a jury would convict.

Still, I'd like to know how it actually escalated to this point. By all accounts he was very drunk, yet in one video I saw he seemed to be having a somewhat rational convo with a cop. Certainly individuals that are under the influence do nutty things and are rarely in control of their actions  - but was there any way that the end result could have been different?

Every news report I've seen clearly stated that he was both drunk and asleep (in the passenger side.. how did that happen?) of his vehicle in the drive-thru. I dunno.... this town I live in seems to be the drunk and drugged/OD'd capitol and the cops manage to deal with the local belligerent idiots without shooting them. So how does one department manage to get it done successfully? I even remember we had this psycho drugged woman running at cars with a hatchet, in the scuffle to subdue her she stabbed officers with a needle, but they still never shot her.

everything was under control until they tried to cuff him, then all heck broke lose. The movement against the perceived  but not actual bias by the police is being hurt by this stupidity

It was being discussed on a FB post. Some really a special kind of stupid poster, and I kid you not, said we should have sent a social worker instead of the police.

At least on urban departments.  I still wonder what this along with the pandemic will do relative to people wanting to live in high density cities.
