Employment History on K1 Visa - employer contact

Hi!

I see on a sample DS-160 that you need to include employer manager and their number for your employment history.

I, the beneficiary, haven't told my employer about this yet as I don't want to jeopardise my employment on my current position while we wait for the application to be processed. Do they contact your current and previous supervisors to verify your employment, or this is more just a formality?

Thanks!

Never had anyone say that anyone who had anything to do with an application called. Keep in mind if you are not truthful with your answers, you'll have a bigger problem on your hands. Give them exactly what they want, and you have a better chance of receiving a visa. Good luck and stay engaged.

Agreed - possible if they do an  investigation, but very highly unlikely. I have not seen them do so for a family-based visa.

Thanks everyone! Was definitely going to provide all information on my application but was more wondering if I should tell my employers or not. I think for now I will not as it doesn't sound likely they will be contacted.

And telling them depends on how in advance you must notify based on the law or your contract.

The visa is valid for 6 months -from the time you go through the medical-, so you can inform your employer once you have the visa in hand and you'd still have time to wrap up things.

Very true! This might be the strategy I go with. Thanks!
