If you use your Balikbayan privilege for him, then he doesn't need a return ticket.  Attached is the BI Memo that states Balikbayans are exempt from the return ticket requirement.  You can search the net for a better copy.

That being said, sometimes people run into problems, so as always ymmv.

Not sure if that will make the airline happy, would be nice if it did.  Have you used the BB letter with a one way ticket?

Otherwise airlines will want to see a return ticket or a ticket for onward travel.

Buy a cheap onward ticket to HK or  SG that departs after you arrive in the Phils, you can toss it (we call them throw away tickets) that will show onward travel to keep the airlines happy

I am not sure with balikbayan though, suppose to be I'm only here in the states for 2 weeks, but got stuck because of the lockdown in Manila. This is my return flight to the Philippines and hubby wants to come with me to see the girls and I am not sure if my return flight counts as a balikbayan privilege.

When landing in Manila  we fill out a form and state there as a returning resident right?, will that be their basis for balikbayan? Sorry about the question, we want to purchase a one way ticket for him because we are not sure yet when his coming back in the states as we have other things to do in Philippines while his there.

Thanks

I am not sure if I have used the BB letter yet, there was only one time me and the husband flew back together and I stayed in the Philippines already and only flew to the states when we do our taxes. Most of the time he flew alone. Will I still be able to print that BB letter and show the airline?

US carriers and Australian carries know the BB rules when traveling with your spouse from Philippines, No need to waste your time or money on a throw away ticket.

Only need a throw away ticket when traveling alone to Philippines and want to stay past 30 days.

I have personally not used the BB privilege or the letter.  I don't stay long enough.

I provided the memo as an option used by others, but it comes at a risk.  I have known others who have had no issues, others who have solved the issue by whipping out the BB memo, and still others ultimately forced to buy the onward ticket.

Since we are dealing with different airlines and gate agents with varying levels of knowledge and stubbornness, it all comes down to your risk tolerance, patience, communication skills, and luck.

Personally, I'd probably just spend money for a throwaway ticket as not to hassle with it.

That was my thought as well ...   each agent at the airlines can bring its own issues.

But the info is good, and it would be nice to use it without having to deal with airline agent personalities

What about the rest as 90% of the carriers into Philippines are neither Australian or US carriers.

I have only flown those, never had an issue. I am sure they all know the rules, not like it a super secret.

All you need to do is look at rules, Pretty much common knowledge I would think by now.
