Hi everyone. I have had non-immigrant visa denials in the last two years. Now I have an immigrant visa appointment coming up, and although I have read that it should be fairly straightforward and relationship focused, I'm apprehensive I will get asked questions about my previous interviews and denials. Do you think this might happen? If it does, there's no problem with the answers, but it's just making me feel edgy. Going in there confidentially and recieving two denials in the past has shaken my confidence and now I need it!

What were the reasons for the denials? If it was because they suspected immigrant intent (lack of ties to your home country), then it definitely won't be an issue for this interview because this time you are supposed to have immigrant intent.

Assuming your denials had nothing to do with inadmissibility (criminal record, health, misrep, etc) then you’re good.

Depends on what sort of things would be classed as misrep?

The first time I went, I was asked whether I had a boyfriend and I said no. I didn't.

You lied? Never a good approach. Did you say you didn’t have a boyfriend because you thought it would harm your chances of being approved for the visa if you had a boyfriend?

You want to hope that they don’t pick up on that and join the dots with your timeline. London is not usually very in-depth with these things but who knows?

No I didn't have a boyfriend. I was asked randomly if I did.

So what’s the issue? Why are you worried about answering a question truthfully?

Because I got married after a while, it comes across as though I did

You mean your time scale is very fast? Because two years ago you didn’t have a boyfriend and now you’re about to be interviewed for a spousal visa? That is fast but not unheard of. The CO will make a judgement call on whether the relationship is bona fide or not. I assume you have evidence that it is?

Yes it's fast.. everything did happen fast. I wish I had the time to get my wedding dress fitted correctly etc and looking back at my pics I would've looked that much better. Of course, we have extensive evidence. If that includes all the trips we've had together, their tickets/times we've spent together. I have around 45 pictures glued to multiple a4 sheets but I want to take all of them just in case. Gift receipts/chats and call history.

London is not going to be concerned about that. They don’t have time to connect dots on people that qualify. If you had many, many dodgy issues, they may take the time to ask more questions. Are you a real couple? Or is your concern over trying to pull off an immigration scam with a fake spouse? If the former, then you’ll be surprised how quick and easy your interview will be.

I can laugh at how much of a real couple we are. But I want to cry because I miss him so much. I haven't seen him in four months and that's the longest ever we haven't met. Also, I know people have their reasons.. and I feel for the ones who may be genuinely stuck in life. But I am born and bred in the UK, with all my friends, family, freedom and car here. Why on earth would I want to move to the US where I will ditch all that and drive on the wrong side of the road? Hell no. But it's where he lives rn.
