So my fiance and I had to postpone our wedding due to covid.

Shes in UK im in FL. We dont know when international travel will resume and if it will be safe so we are looking into any possible alternatives. Ive heard that there is a way to obtain a marriage certificate via zoom or skype. Not 100% sure what this entails or if the US accepts this?

anyone have more info on it? thx.

There are some places in the US that allow marriage via video call due to COVID-19. However, there are strict requirements for this...namely that both people must be physically present together (and sometimes one or both need to be residents of the state where it is performed), and/or the officiant must be in the same state as well.

What you are describing - the 2 people not being physically together and getting married - is a proxy marriage. This is not legal in most US states (no idea about the UK, in case the certificate was issued there). Even in the states where it is legal, this is not recognized by USCIS until the mariage has been consummated. For immigration purposes, this means you must meet in person before it will be considered valid.

tldr: No, a marriage between somebody physically in the US and physically in the UK will not alleviate the need to be together before filing.

Immigration doesn't recognize an unconsummated proxy marriage

YMMV
