US Embassy Reopening - Update Thread

Anyone out there still waiting for their embassy to open? The Embassy in Ethiopia put out a statement that they can't reopen at this moment due to "resource constraints". It's not even about Covid anymore. I'm getting disheartened, and I must say jealous seeing so many people get interviews organized. They can't keep the embassy closed forever right?

We're still waiting for the US Embassy in Moscow to open up. They were recently doing interviews for the DV Applicant/Lottery Winners during the month of September. We only know if one Non-DV applicant that has an interview next week on Tuesday. But all in all, no official update since March 2020 - we've been very distressed about this whole matter.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know how hard it is without an end date in sight. Covid cases are low here (well when compared to the US) so I was hoping it would reopen, so the lack of funding came as quite a surprise.

Don't lose heart. In about 25 days, there is an election. If all goes well, we will have a new president and new support for easing immigration restrictions.

Nairobi stated that this month (October) they will be doing immigrant visa applications which were cancelled earlier this year. We are still waiting to be contacted. All will be well soon. Don't lose hope.

Thank you neighbor, you are right. Though I suppose we won't see any impact from elections until Jan 2021, but that's only 3 months away.

My fiance and I have been talking a lot about moving to Nairobi if there's no movement on our visa in the near future. Good luck to you and your loved one!

Hehe. I also talked with my fiance about moving to Kenya if this thing takes too long. I would go to Mombasa though. Nairobi is nice too. Let's see.

Yes.  Cairo, Egypt had originally cancelled all interviews through September.  Everybody thought they would start again in October.  Now they are saying to contact them at the end of November.  I seriously don't know what's going on.

I'm waiting on the Addis embassy too. Their silence is absolutely maddening. What's the statement you're talking about? I look for new information compulsively and haven't found anything recent! After they finally put out August's visa issuance statistics, I was so disappointed to see that the Embassy in Addis Ababa had processed 244 non-immigrant visas, and only 9 (NINE) immigrant visas. All we can do really is stay patient and hopeful I guess 🤷‍♀️

It is maddening! I've been messaging them pretty frequently to ask if there's any updates (any maybe just to annoy them a little ha). But on the embassy's webpage they put out a statement in August regarding student visas that basically said they would not be resuming visa services yet due to a lack of resources. I'm surprised they even did that many non-immigrant visas in Aug!

If anyone out there is waiting for the Belgium Consulate’s reopening status, we received our email scheduling our interview on November 5 for our CR1/IR1 visa. Best of luck to everyone still waiting.
