As of March 16, 2020, the United States Embassy in Sarajevo is cancelling routine Nonimmigrant and Immigrant visa appointments. From March 16, 2020, the U.S. Embassy is not accepting applications by Interview Waiver, Renewal by Mail, Drop Box, or Mail-in. We will resume routine visa services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date at this time. The MRV fee is valid and may be used for a visa application in the country where it was purchased within one year of the date of payment. If you have an urgent matter and need to travel immediately, please follow the guidance provided at the Official U.S. Department of State Visa Appointment Service to request an urgent appointment.
You do not need to take any action at this time. Once the U.S. Embassy and Consulates resume normal operations, we will contact you to reschedule your interview.

And this is the second email:

The appointment(s) at the Consular Section Sarajevo for the following applicant(s) were cancelled.

What happens when you go on the website? Are you able to schedule a new appointment or does it at least provide more details on the reasoning for canceling again...?

This time I can't even schedule a new interview. It says no available appointments at this time

And I called them and they said that we shouldn't look at other countries, but yours. So seems like no matter if any other country opens up, it is all up to them when they will start

Well, that's disappointing 😔 I'm hoping that tomorrow will bring more information our way and hopefully some good news. I know that local conditions have to be met for the embassies to re-open and move through the different phases,  but it would be nice to know their criteria. The airport has been open, the curfews eliminated, pretty much all businesses open, they've even opened borders to the EU. Those are all positive milestones and most of them were reached a long time ago. Here's hoping that good news is on its way for all of us!! 🤞

Kind of makes sense when you look at the numbers. Still, that sucks. I hope new cases go down by then.

I agree and find that it is totally unacceptable the way they are treating us citizens and our loved ones overseas. They must do better to treat us with dignity after all they work for us the US citizens of this country. It is a failure from the top town unfortunately but let's vote correctly on November 3rd.  Despite all the challenges with COVID,  a little dignity wouldn't hurt in a time like this when people and families are torn apart.

I'm pretty sure it has been stated (numerous times and places) that the decision to resume visa processing is left up to each consulate, not the White House.

Blaming the current administration for your frustrations is misplaced. Blame the consulate if you feel the need to lash out.

Can you say that all this time since March the lack of information about embassies reopening is because of the embassy lack of communication? I doubt the embassies would be allowed to act autonomously based on their own desires. There has to be a centralized coordination to their operations.

There are numerous articles stating that the decision to process at the local consulate is up to each consulate.

If you park your bias and use your energy to research this subject you will easily find the answers.
