F4 visa processing time confusion

Hello,

I am bit confused about processing times.    My husband filed I-130 for his married brother in August 2012 and we just got email notification yesterday that USCIS has approved his case and it has been sent to state for processing.       From this point on, is there additional wait (of years) for processing?    I've heard people say that F4 is the slowest processing visa and it takes years and years (granted, it's close to 8 years already).     However, I was not able to figure out where I can find any additional wait time.   

IR-5 - for Mom

08/27/2012 - Sent Application
08/28/2012 - NOA1 date
08/31/2012 - Received email from USCIS saying the package is accepted
09/11/2012 - Received a letter saying case transferred Lee's Summit, MO
02/15/2013 - Received an email saying case is approved
02/22/2013 - I-130 NOA2 hard copy received

NVC Journey
--------------
02/18/2013 - NVC received the case
03/11/2013 - NVC case # assigned
03/12/2013 - Petitioners' email corrected, Beneficiary's email added
03/13/2013 - DS3032 received
03/13/2013 - DS3032 email sent (was sent before the we received the DS3032)
03/13/2013 - AOS fee invoiced and Paid (shows In Progress)
03/14/2013 - AOS fee shows PAID
03/14/2013 - AOS package sent (overnight next-day delivery)
03/15/2013 - AOS package delivered to NVC on 03/15/2013 at 10:06:00
03/19/2013 - Re-sent DS-3032 email with Supervisor Review on subject
03/21/2013 - DS-3032 accepted
03/22/2013 - IV fee invoiced and paid
03/25/2013 - IV fee shows PAID
03/25/2013 - IV package sent (overnight next-day delivery)
03/26/2013 - IV package delivered to NVC on 03/26/2013 at 10:04am

04/08/2013 - IV checklist found out by phone - NVC lost our marriage certificate sad.png

04/16/2013 - IV Checklist response mailed - new Marriage Certificate

04/16/2013 - Case Complete (they found our first marriage certificate during supervisor review??)
04/17/2013 - NVC received IV Checklist response

Bear in mind, this only indicates to you how long people currently getting visas have been waiting. It tends to get longer over time. So what you see from the visa bulletin is that people from India who are currently eligible for F4s (...or would be without the temporary ban on issuance and embassy closures...) have been waiting for 15.5 years. The wait times tend to get longer over time as general queue gets longer over time (currently 2.1m F4s in line) for 65k visas every year, then india specifically moves more slowly because it hits its country limit (7% of total visas) annually - this is why it is listed separately.  So it’s quite possible your brother in law ends up waiting closer to something like another 10 years for his interview still.

That totally makes sense, thank you @SusieQQQ!!

 

My. husband and I ended up concluding the wait years in the range of 10 to 14 years overall.   And that is with big IF such as if things remain as is with no major changes (chances of that are lower given the current climate).    I knew from other people talking that this is a multi-years (or we can say decades) process but I just wanted to ensure that with some data like the ones you and @milimelo provided so I don't unnecessarily stress out for preparing all the stuff needed once NVC process starts.

You’ll get an invitation to submit documents around a year before the priority date is expected to be current so you’ll have plenty of time to prepare. I wouldn’t expect to receive that notification for at least 7 years tbh. No point preparing anything yet as so much can/will change.

Also just on a technical point (doesn’t change anything practically) - not all the wait is processing. Your case is done processing at uscis now that you have the approval letter. The rest of the wait is just the wait for the priority date to become current.
