Hi Everyone,

 

Hope you and your loved ones are healthy physically and mentally in such challenging times.

 

I'd appreciate your help with a quick question: Am I allowed to apply to ANY USCIS office? I ask because the one nearest (15 mins), completion date is expected to be 18-28 months. Whereas, if I drive about 2 hours to upstate, it goes down to 7-14 months, or even about 45 minutes away, it's 9.5-17, both of which are way better scenarios.

 

I'm applying under the 5 years rule (even though I'm married), and applying online, so I don't have to be to the actual office too often, that the drive would be an issue, right? or is there a rule that pending my zip code I'm designated a certain office? (and if so, how do I find out which ones I'm allowed to?)

No it is not your decision. You will get sent to the one that has jurisdiction of where you live.

Which office? It’s useful to look at the timelines on here to see real-life timelines of people going through the process. USCIS will quote the quickest and slowest case going through that office and you could be anywhere in between that.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

 

Now a US citizen!

New York City, New York.

 

It says 12.5 - 28 months completion. I'm not sure where I can find the timelines for NYC here?

Here’s the most recent interviews in descending date order. Of course it’s not done until the oath ceremony. I imagine some oath ceremonies  are held up due to Covid-19.
