For the NVC civil documents it says:

Please note that all documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country from which you are applying, must be accompanied by certified translations.

The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that:

  • The translation is accurate, and
  • The translator is competent to translate.

Everything is in Vietnamese, the language of the country from which we are applying.  It would be reasonably simple to get everything translated but I wonder if that would cause more problems than it is worth.  For example if the translator does not not use the specific verbiage in the statement it could cause a hiccup in the process.

What is the best advice?  Do the translations or not?

Also, if the translations should be provided, do they need to have been performed within a certain timeframe (for example, can I use the marriage certificate translations I obtained for the i-130 process)?

Thank you!

You can but it us not required.

Certain documents might expire ( police reports).  Civil documents do not expire and therefore translations don't expire

YMMV

Since th spouse is applying in Vietnam and the documents are in Vietnamese, no translation is required at this stage.  Don't do additional translations.  Translations already done are not needed and they don't expire.
