Hi everyone -

As I am sure all of you are doing, I check the website (https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gy/iv) each day to see if interviews are being scheduled. Some background. I'm American and my fiancee is Cuban and we have to go to the U.S. embassy in Georgetown, Guyana for the interview. I'm at the point in the process where the I-129 has been approved, the NVC has assigned a case number, and I've completed the DS-160s. I've just been waiting to schedule an interview and then pay the visa fees.

Well, lo and behold, about 30 minutes ago, I checked the website, and an available interview date popped up! Dec 17, 2020! I was so excited. I clicked on it to select it and then went to the payment part - but here is the kicker. I have to go to a local bank in Guyana and pay in cash before the interview can be scheduled! Sooooo.....now what?

Questions:

1) My petition was approved on Nov 5, 2019. Is it wise to schedule an interview for Dec 17, 2020, over a year later? Maybe that's money down the drain.

2) If it's wise to proceed, how can I pay for these visa fees without being able to fly to Guyana? There must be a business that does this.

Thank you all!

It is ok.   This happened  pre covid19, especially in Mexico, when consulates get backed up.  Do keep checking for cancellations.

I know others here have done it.  Not sure I recall seeing any answers.

The feedback I'm hearing is that you just show up 4 or 5 days early to pay the fee and do the medical.  Fee has to be paid 3 days before the interview.

Thank you - it just seems so weird and absolutely insane to fly me, my fiancee, and her two kids, to Guyana without an interview date scheduled and paid for. I'm really confused! What am I supposed to do? Move there temporarily and just hang out? :)

Well Cuba didn't make it easy by "Microwaving" the staff at the US Embassy!  ;)  There are a few places where consulates do visas for residents of other countries but most time there is an option to pay before inthe home country or at the time of interview.  Come December update US!   And do check for cancellations - we moved up 3 months.

That's right LOL

Thank you for your help.

It seems that the interviews are only being opened for Guyanese residents so....I have to contact the US embassy in Havana to schedule the interview in Guyana - that's what someone is telling me.

All medical exams are done in Guyana. There are 2 doctors who can do it—once your case gets to the embassy, they’ll email you and you’ll schedule an appointment with them for the interview. Once you have the interview date you’ll call or email one of the physicians on the list and tell them your interview date. They’ll give you a date within 5 or so days before the interview so you have enough time to do the exam and get your results to take with you to the embassy.

Once you get to the point where you are instructed to pay the fee, you'll get instructions to create a login for a specific website.  You will receive a pin when it's time to pay the visa fee. You can only pay cash (in Guyanese currency) at any Scotia Bank in Guyana. At the bank you will hand them the paper with the pin that you were given and the visa fee amount in Guyanese currency.  They will give you a receipt and this will prompt the complete payment process (I believe the next day).  If you get ahead of yourself like I did and your pin expires before you can make the payment, you can call and get a new pin.  Your visa fee must be completely paid at least 3 business days before your interview.  My fiancé arrived in Guyana a few days before I did for our interview because he had his medical exam, so it was more effective for him to get this taken care of before I arrived in Guyana.
