A veto-proof majority of the Democrat-dominated Minneapolis City Council announced Sunday that it had bowed to Black Lives Matter protesters’ demands to abolish the police, promising the demonstration a “police-free future.”

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported:

In their boldest statement since George Floyd’s killing, nine Minneapolis City Council members told a crowd Sunday that they will “begin the process of ending the Minneapolis Police Department.”

“We recognize that we don’t have all the answers about what a police-free future looks like, but our community does,” they said, reading off a prepared statement. “We’re committed to engaging with every willing community member in the City of Minneapolis over the next year to identify what safety looks like for you.”

Their words — delivered one day after Mayor Jacob Frey told a crowd of protesters he does not support the full abolishment of the MPD — set off what is likely to be a long, complicated debate about the future of the state’s largest police force.

Most homicide victims in Chicago are young, black men, and the suspects are, too. But murders have fallen significantly in recent years, along with police-involved shootings. There were 764 murders and 12 fatal police-involved shootings in 2016, compared with 492 murders and three fatal police-involved shootings last year.

Given the fact that black people overwhelmingly suffer from a lack of police presence in urban cities (due to high violent crime rates), the lesson from these "defund the police" people is "black lives don't matter".

Yes, that is the interesting question.  Most of the justification for more restrictive gun laws is that the police will protect you, hmmm.  And when asked on a national news show, the president of the Minneapolis City Council said that having police come in time of need in the middle of the night was simply white privilege (my paraphrasing), so I guess the residents of Minneapolis will be on their own.  Honestly, I am surprised the Minneapolis police officers have not walked off their jobs yet.

Either they'll find their courage, or they'd better practice that knee bending. 

 

Funny thing, if Republicans in power had any backbone, themselves, they'd understand that as they sit by and do nothing about this, they're losing people that might vote for them. These people face demoralization, social cognitive dissonance/equilibrium issues.. 

 

If they're just waiting for the process to save them, how would they deal with the ill-motivated mangling elections? Obviously people this motivated to take a stick of dynamite to the country won't care about fair elections.

This is what amazes me.  Almost all of these incidents happen in cities governed by Democrats for an extended period of time, and in some cases such as Minneapolis, by extreme Left Democrats, and yet the media tries to pin all the blame on the GOP and President Trump.
