Experience finding a J1 host?

Hey everyone, I am Canadian and looking to find a J1 host for a traineeship for 18 months (obviously given the times, I will likely wait a bit of time to reach out to companies) but I wanted to hear anyone's experience. I'm a bit older and do not work in hospitality, etc. How did you go about finding a host company for your J1? I feel like I will need to draft a good email and send it off to a ton of companies and see if anything lands? I think I'll have to be quite careful about the wording.

Did anyone find a traineeship on their own? Any advice?

May want to read up on propublica website about issues current J-1 trainees are going through.

I was just reading about that. However, I definitely am not planning on applying for a J1 anytime soon, but I just wanted to do some research in the meantime!

I’d look up what exchange agencies you have in Canada - start with US embassy in your country (or their Facebook) and see what local agencies they use for summer work travel program and then see if they do j-1 traineeship as well. Also check travel.state.gov about j-1 trainee visas.

Great, thanks for the info! Yeah, I've reached out to a program here and I think my next step (whenever that may be) will be to coldcall/e-mail prospective companies
