Does embassy automatically extend noa2?

My interview is currently scheduled for July at the London embassy(hopefully it goes ahead!) but my noa2 expires at the end of June. I know I am required to bring a petition of affirmation from my fiancé but do I also have to contact the embassy to request an extension or will they do this automatically? Thanks

They do it at the window at the time of the interview

YMMV

In almost all cases in the past, embassies and consulates have automatically extended the petition validity when the beneficiary's inability to get an interview was due to interview slots not being available.

So while no general policy for interviews canceled due to COVID-19 closings has been announced, it's all but certain they will be extended.

In any case, they almost certainly won't announce anything until they're taking interviews again.

The embassy in London is not watching a clock waiting to explode your case at the end of June. If they get no action from a petition beneficiary by six months of receiving a file, they send a letter asking if the beneficiary is still wanting a visa or not. Then they wait even longer before deciding a petition is dead for lack of action.

You have already indicated you are pursuing a visa by submitting a DS-160 and making an interview appointment. That’s enough to keep your petition alive They just need to check at the interview that your fiance is still wanting to marry you by seeing a new letter of intent (if four months have passed since the petition was approved.)

The embassy in London has a statement on their website:

Will my immigrant or fiancé(e) visa case expire?/Can I continue with the application process?

If your application is being processed by the Embassy in London, applicants are given 12 months from the date on which the Embassy’s Immigrant Visa Unit writes to them with instructions about the status of their case in which to apply for the visa.

The best place to be is engaged is at your embassy's website for the most current information about COVID-19 reopening procedures and other tidbits of information to help you navigate the process in your country. EVERY country's embassy is different in how they handle the interview process.
