Perhaps its not a trust issue but a communication one? I mean if your wife asked for your SSN and you asked her why and she explained its for taxes and you come here asking if thats true- thats a trust issue. If she asked for your SSN and you gave it to her simply cause she asked- and then come here to ask why, thats a communication issue.

Approach matters when asking someone something if not for the hash response I won't be told what the ssn is used for at the time of collection
