     Yeah he meant he understood their pain, because as a parent, if he had a son, he may be dealing with a similar situation. I don't see anything wrong with that. Empathy is not a bad thing for a president to have, and it doesn't mean he was taking sides. I mean it's pretty obvious if Obama had a son he would be black, regardless of whether he said it or not. People who make that statement about race, that is their reaction. No need to blame it on Obama 

 

    Then again we have people here who go nuts if they hear someone called Trump a name, yet refer to Obama as "Obummer" and have derogatory nicknames for every liberal in office. There's no need to pretend to be coming from a neutral or unbiased perspective when you are not. You are correct when you said there would be backlash if Trump said something similar. You are failing to acknowledge that there actually was backlash against Obama for saying this. In both cases the reaction to the message is more a reflection of the attitude towards the messenger.

I dont go nuts if someone makes fun of Trump. I have been critical of him several times in  this forum. In fact I went off on him for suggesting that we investigate injecting disinfectant  into people, and caught backlash from the MDR.
