I-130 Relationship Evidence

Hi,

Looking for suggestions for further evidence to confirm bona fide marriage. Currently we have joint bank account statement, and an affidavit from a friend verifying the authenticity of the relationship. I own our house, and can’t add my wife’s name to the lease, so can’t do that. Are these two documents sufficient along with provided marriage certificate etc. Or are there other documents etc. you suggest?

Many thanks,

keith

Actually, affidavits from acquaintances, family, and friends are okay.  They must state how they know that you are a couple, things that they know about each of you, explain why they think that the marriage is authentic, what they’ve observed you doing as a couple, and the frequencies..  They should also mention how long they’ve known you, then add their signatures to the affidavit, along with their DOB’s, address, license, or other government issued identification numbers, and countries of birth, and residencies.  Pictures are always good, especially with family, and friends, at different events together, etc.  utility bills with spouses name on them, and joint credit card accounts. If the affidavits are in a foreign language, they must be translated into English.  As for adding your spouse to the title of your home, if that is something that you truly want to do, then you can do a quit claim deed, in order to legally add your spouse to the deed.  Do take in mind though, that adding any person to your title will be legally binding, and the only way to remove them, is if they go in person with you to have themselves removed from it.  Otherwise, the home will be considered property of all whom are listed on the deed, and by the way, they cannot be forced to be removed from it once added.  But in the case of a divorce, the judge can either award you, your spouse, or both any portion of the proceeds obtained in the sale of the home, oftentimes depending on the length of the marriage, and the contributions made by each party.  Good luck!

While affidavits from people who actually know something about the relationship CAN be good, it's a lot of trouble to put friends and family through unless absolutely necessary.  If absolutely necessary, you'll still look desperate.  If you have good evidence of time spent together in person, do your friends and family a favor and skip the affidavits.

I believe that the gentlemen, said that he already has one, and I merely indicated that it was in fact a good form of evidence,  rather than suggest that he use that particular one, even though it is listed as one of many.  As far as the appearance of desperation, I have not heard of anyone, who has used this form complain that they had any sort of problem when using it.  And with vast amounts of immigrant cases, and types being submitted daily, none of us knows any one person’s situation, nor do we know whether or not, all of the forms of evidence are assessable to them all, for whatever reason, nor is it any of our business, unless they chose to disclose their personal information to us.  With that being said, it is only wise for us to mention the various forms that we know of, so that they will be well informed of ALL the options that are available to them, giving them the opportunity to utilize any of those listed, at THEIR OWN DISCRETION.  They are merely OPTIONS, not SUGGESTIONS, and up to each applicant, to decide which ones are best for THEM...Not starting, nor attempting to debate about anything here, as this is a help group meant to help one another, not fight.

Agree!!! Support from friends and family have never been a sign of being desperate. But like he said it’s your choice. And every case is different so it can be situational. To add to the list of options ; Beneficiary / payable of death on bank accounts , life insurance, text messages, phone calls, photos for sure, hotels receipts , gifts exchange. I got approved, and I all of these things.

I have heard USCIS picks random cases to give them RFE, you never know what USCIS looks for or does.

We got approved with just a letter from me telling our story, passport stamps, pictures and of course the marriage certificate (we have a lawyer). Like the other visa journey members said, its up to your discretion.

That is such great news to hear, and yes we must use whatever means that are available to us.  It is a chance that we must take, in order to be approved, because without nothing at all, we will get NOTHING AT ALL!  That’s why, I could not understand the statement made about the appearance of desperation, it is more of a put down, rather than a tool used to assist our fellow members throughout their individual journeys.  And besides, the government would never suggest us submitting forms of evidence, that they will only frown upon in the end.  Seems to me, that it appears to seem desperate to the individual, NOT the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT.  Congratulations, and continued success throughout your life’s journey, with immigration, and going forward.❤️

Please, let us not discourage one another in our quests to bring our loved ones to the United States to join us, and become U.S. Citizens.  But instead, let us assist each other in every way possible to help fulfill each other’s dreams.  This is a long, hard, drawn out process for us all, and it is easier to navigate through the process with helpful assistance, and encouragement from each other, along with positive feedback, that will possibly benefit us all.  Discouragement, often leads to failure, and ones inability to go through such a process with positivity, and hope for a better and brighter future.  So, let us not rain on, anyone else’s parade, and if we cannot offer encouragement, then why not say ANYTHING AT ALL?

friends and family aren't going to write something negative, the affidavits hold very little weight.  They are not "quality" evidence.  They are evidence if you're lacking other quality. Photos with friends and family if you're providing affidavits from those friends and family create more weight to that affidavit. A joint bank account is quality evidence.  Evidence of time spent together and regular communication is quality evidence.

The USC can add the beneficiary to their car insurance, health insurance, as a beneficiary of life insurance.  They can create a will. Provide photos along with boarding passes.
