Hey Everyone,
Currently a situation has occurred and we have decided to remain in Sweden. Living in Sweden now, we had filed all of our paperwork, got approved from the NVC recently, and are waiting on a date for the interview at the embassy.  But as this may come as a shock to some, we can not move to the states. So a few questions have risen.

1.) Should a formal letter be written to the NVC and to contact the embassy to inform them of the situation?
2.)Is there a possibility of punishment such as a fine or a travel ban (my wife is not allowed into the U.S. for example)?
3.)Can we still go through with the process and move to the states years later? (guessing obviously not....)
4.)May we reapply for a green card in the future (in 10-12 years)?

This decision has rocked us to the core and I want to be a 100% on what the consequences will be.
Thank you to all that help me. Cheers.

1) you can

2) no, normal entry conditions apply

3) i130 never expires.   When you are ready the approved petition can be requested to be reinstated

So things seem to be getting worse and worse in the states and our decision to stay is a for sure thing. But maybe in the distant distant future, we would like to move to the states.

How should one pause this process? I need a few more details because they have scheduled our interview now and I am nervous to inform them of our choice. Is just notifying them enough?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Contact the consulate and tell them that you want to delay the interview.  They will hold the file for a year.  If you don't contact them again it will be sent for storage.  When you are about 6 to 10 months from when you want to interview file an I-824, pay the fee, and have it resent to the consulate.   -  It is easier / cheaper if you just contact the consulate every 10 to 12 months and ask them to keep the file

I agree.  This keeps your options open.  No "consequences" or penalties.
