Hi all, I apologise if this is in the wrong category, feel free to move it if so.

I am here on a K1 visa and am in the process of adjusting status. We have not yet had our interview. With all the recent things going on in the world I have seen a post on social media saying you can be denied a visa or be deported for being “too political” this worries me enormously because as of late I have been contributing a lot to the current state of things on my Twitter.

I believe I only provided my Facebook as my social media during the application, which might be considered a red flag? I’m wondering if I have to provide all social media and if so whether I am at risk because of what I have posted on my Twitter? It seems crazy to me they can deport you for having a political view and being angry about things but I do not want to be vulnerable. I have now made my twitter private and as I said have not provided it but I’m sure they could find it through my email address.

Please be kind in the replies, I understand I should’ve probably thought of this sooner but I’ve never really considered political views to be anything they could have a huge problem with. Any guidance would be appreciated!

No one really knows how much the USCIS relies on social media data mining to vet out applicants. From what I've seen, it happens rarely. Even then, they only flag or follow up on the people who rank for some high-profile criminal, political or otherwise sensitive topics. So, if you rant a bit about Trump, it probably won't harm your case unless you showed anti-American, anti-democratic, etc. hostilities. All in all, it's probably not going to be an issue.

I learned the hard way, I hope YOU don't have to. Advice: learn, learn, learn.
