How long has everyone allowed for their connecting flights after arriving at the port of entry? I'm looking at flights with a 2 hour 55 minute layover; does this seem good?

It can vary greatly. Assuming you are entering at LAX... it might be wise to take a little longer gap as you need to recheck baggage and change terminals fir onward flights and this can add more time than you think.

Thank you. I was hoping it would be quicker due to lower passenger numbers overall and my choices seem to be 2hr 55 or 6 hours 😬

Lower passenger numbers perhaps but fewer arrival airports causing some funneling. I was through LAX mid December 2020 snd it was quieter but US air travel is now getting back to levels it was 12 months ago .. domestic is now reasonably busy. Probable the only way to guarantee a quick passage through CBP is to take the longer layover !!! You may be able to get on the earlier flight if that happens.

I hear you on that. I can just see it now: 10 minutes processing, 20 minutes sorting out my luggage and 5 hours and 30 minutes wandering around the terminal

Getting through the domestic terminal security can be a big pain in LAX especially the morning hours when Aussie flights arrive!  Better more time than not enough ! Where are you travelling to after LAX ? United / Delta or AA?

With Delta to JFK. I've heard the horror stories about AA and United. I had a really good experience with Delta so if I have to fly through California they are my first choice. I'd prefer to fly direct into JFK if I can find a flight with a short layover on the date I want.

Good choice.

Our application got approval on 13 March to be expedited (even though we didn't ask, but I'm not complaining 😀) CEAC says it is still "in transit". How long did everyone wait from approval to interview email? Thanks!

There have been other regular (*not expedited) cases that have also gotten that email:

Thanks, yeah I've seen those. Just wondering how long I can expect to wait until the interview is scheduled.

Thanks @KeishaABI am not 100% if i understood, i think what you are trying to say, to check in an extra bag i can get the heavy duty box from Bunnings.

You can check in either a box or bag but you will have to pay extra for it. The fees depend on the airlines.

I'm just choosing to take an extra a box from bunnings because its bigger and more sturdy. Plus, we don't need any more suitcases lol.
