@JaymitI got approved for expedite today. The reason for my case was emotional distress and hardships. But i attached certificate from my Doctor as i am undergoing treatment and had a medical history to attach as a supporting evidence.

Hope this helps.

Wow congratulations.

I don't have any such documents to attached but i just did my blood test few months ago and got diabetes can i attach that as a medical issue ?

If the medical results haven't arrived by the day of the interview then the CO can issue 221g while waiting for the results. I.e. it's not an issue.

Thanks for responding :) I know that! Just wondering roughly how long that delay would be. So, how long it usually takes for Sydney to receive medical results.

When I arrive in the USA, how long does it take to receive the green card and SSN?

Thanks.

My green card arrived in around 2 and a half weeks, which was surprising because the CBP officer told us when we entered the US that it could take 6 months.  It was my SSN that was delayed.  One department didn't talk to another department, and I wasn't in the system.  I had to make an appointment with the DSS and show them all my documentation, and then it took about a week or two after that for the social security card to arrive.

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. When you filled out the form for NVC, did you authorize USCIS to release your data for SSA to access and make your SSN? I put this option on my form. My visa is EB3 and I filled out the DS-260, I don't know if it's the same form you filled out.

If you did, did you still have to schedule a meeting with them to do their SSN? What kind of documents did you have to take there?

Hi all,

On a seperate note, just a question all who are moving to US from Australia, how are you managing to take all your luggage along? I mean the airlines, only allow 2 bags (if i am not wrong 23 kgs each). And any additional checked baggage costs $200 USD.

I also checked a few luggage transfer websites and those work out to be even more expensive.

Just to get some insights, how everyone is managing to take all their stuff along?

Thank you.

Hi, I plan to check in an extra box. I'm getting a heavy duty storage box from Bunnings which we will be able to use for storing stuff as we already have a handful of luggage bags and don't need any more. I've got the Ezy storage bunker heavy duty storage tub. You can padlock them and you can purchase heavy duty wheels which you can remove.

I did tick the box on the DS-260 for the Social Security Card to be issued when I arrived in the USA.  When the card didn't arrive at the address we provided when we entered the US, I called the Social Security Administration to check whether the card had been issued to the address that we had put on the application (this could have been the issue because when I completed the DS-260 we didn't know the actual address of where we would be living).  The SSA said my details weren't even in the Social Security system, so I needed to make an appointment and bring my identity documents (passport with visa and green card) I also took my birth certificate, marriage certificate and change of name certificate just to be sure I had everything in case they needed it.

The SSA said that there had been a few cases of the information not being passed from one agency to another, so my address issue may or may not have been the cause of this.  My suggestion is that if you don't receive your SS card within 2 to 3 weeks of arriving in the US, call the SSA and make enquiries.

Does anyone know if the Embassy schedules our interview for us or if we go online to schedule it ourselves?  Also, there seems to be some conflicting information on various government websites.  Does anyone know if we're indeed supposed to create an account on this website: http://cdn.ustraveldocs.com/au/index.html ?

Thanks so much for all the useful info!

They email you with an appointment and you let them know if you can make it on that day or if you want to reschedule.

Yes, make an account. This is where you pay your visa fee.

How long has everyone allowed for their connecting flights after arriving at the port of entry? I'm looking at flights with a 2 hour 55 minute layover; does this seem good?
