My expedite request was approved 😊

The consulate said they now need to request my case from NVC and it could take up to 30-60 days to get it (I'm hoping they added a massive buffer to that timeframe).

Awesome! Time to get ready for the interview 🙌

let us know how you go with getting an interview! I am eager to know if they will schedule you from VIC. I know someone else waiting and they are really needing an interview ASAP (also from Melbourne)

So the Consulate is saying they are not  scheduling interviews for people who need to travel from VIC right now. However, I plan to try my absolute best to get a permit. If I by some chance manage to do that and get into NSW and am in quarantine, then I'll contact the Consulate and ask to schedule the interview for after I'm done with quarantine. I have to try... 😥

Anyone else who was approved and getting interview details. Were you asked to proceed 2019 tax stuff? Maybe cause mine is so old we're being asked to update... I already have a joint sponsor, I assume you guys had their 2019 info?

Hey all,

forum newbie but really enjoyed reading your posts was very helpful.
I have been at NVC since 17 July 2020 and have zero reason for it to be expedited unfortunately.
Us peasants will just have to wait it out it seems 😂

I hope some new people will jump on and keep the thread active.
So..
My husband called NVC today the lady he spoke to said the DS 5540 is not required but it is a good idea to print it off their website and fill it in and take it with you some COs like to have them during the interview some don’t, it’s all personal preference. I’d personally take it in or upload it at the start better safe than sorry.
She said any forms any fees they don’t just spring them on you applicants are given plenty of prior notice. Which so far I have found to be accurate.
She also said most embassies and consulates are open and they are scheduling interviews- which I thought was a positive.

He asked about a case like Zochu and she couldn’t say for certain but the lack of steady income the previous year would be her assumption and easily overcome to which I see congrats are in order 🥂

Lastly she said a lot of their calls come from husbands whose wives google a lot and watch too much tv and told him to tell me to stop stressing 😂.
Yeah he calls every month or two 😂😂

NVC never said to us to bring the DS5540 either but based on other people’s experience it’s good to have JUST in case. In fact NVC never mentioned the lack of income for 2019 (husband served 6 years in US navy prior to 2019). The consular official didn’t want the form, but the consular assistant suggested he may. It was never requested ultimately.

our issue was no income in 2019 and we needed a joint sponsor.

It’s case by case, but if the USC earns over the 125% and you’ll have heath insurance when you enter USA (evidence will be requested by the consular) then you shouldn’t really have a problem.

we submitted our joint sponsor who wasn’t very strong, and even with a class b condition, and a child (she’s 1) we were approved.

Hi Zochu, I'm new to this site, but have really found your posts very informative and provides some clarity in a very uncertain area.  I am wondering if the Consulate asked for evidence of health insurance because this has never come up before?   I am prepared to get it when I'm there, but haven't looked into this yet.

In my situation, my expedite request was approved on Friday 21/8 and I am still awaiting advice from the Sydney Consulate regarding the date for the interview.  Your process from expedite to visa approval seemed to be really quick, even with the requirement to get a Joint Sponsor.

We had a question about health insurance but weren’t asked to provide evidence. Interview was on 18/8

I supplied evidence of our health insurance as we are already covered.  So based on that, we weren’t even asked. Two people before me that i heard being interviewed were questioned and the consular wanted to see Evidence.

i know someone else who was also questioned but wasn’t asked to produce any evidence.

its case by case.

if you don’t have health insurance specifically lined up for your arrival, they may question you further.

it was really quick. We filed the petition in October 2019 and but August 2020 we were done, even with the denial and request for JS. Very lucky.

I received an email from NVC Expedite yesterday confirming that the consulate has approved my expedite request.

Do I now sit back and just wait to here from the consulate with an interview date and time? I just want to make sure I don't have to contact them directly.

Thank you

We got our date straight away. The email with our approval had the interview date on it.

I wonder why yours was different?

Mine was an express post package sent over last week.  K1 don’t get to do emedical.... I have the tracking number so I know it’s been delivered there.

I just realised I wasn't given any envelope from my medical... was I supposed to be? Or does my doctor just send everything? I see alot of people talking about a sealed envelope..

I would call the place who did your medical tomorrow.  Confirm their process.  For O'Connell Street Clinic in Sydney, they asked me to bring an express post envelope from Aus Post, and they sent me offsite to get my x-ray done.  The Pathology was done in house.  The X-Ray people gave me a CD with my X-ray on it and told me to pack it in my hand luggage in case it's asked for at POE, the medical center then sent the medical results to the consulate directly with the express envelope that I supplied. I was able to track it because I had the number with me of course.

The sealed envelope that you will get once you receive your passport back is to be left sealed and handed to the Customs Officer at POE.  You pack with you in your hand luggage your X-Ray CD (if you got that) and your Vaccination report that you'll supply for AOS... well at least that's my understanding of the K-1 process for the medical.
