The NSW/VIC border has just become a lot harder to pass and they’ve bought in new rules.

You HAVE to stay at a designated hotel to quarantine.

if you are staying under 48hours it is free. Anything Over 48hours is $3,200 and you have to stay for the 2 weeks.

to give you all context, i was in NSW for a but over 48 hours (flew up Monday, Tuesday interview and Wednesday flew back). Due to flights and interview times I had to go up on those days. Jetstar has 1 flight to and from Sydney / Melbourne.

this might make it very hard to fly up and come home and avoid the huge hotel bill

military will escort you to and from hotel

they have also narrowed the interpretation/meaning of “legal obligation”:

  • to attend court as a defendant, witness or a lawyer in a case, or to meet other legal obligations imposed by a court or an Act (such as bail or parole obligations)

Oh no! Yeah, not going to be able to fit the need to be at an interview at the Consulate under that (even for an expedited interview which could try argue was granted as an emergency type interview). Thank you for sharing this update. And about the hotel quarantine. Ugh, this is so disappointing. I am trying to stay positive and hope numbers in VIC will go down in these 6 weeks and maybe border will open not too long after.

😱 $3200 how the hell can they justify that price if it was for say 3 days? Talk about extortion..

people have lives, and important things that just can’t be delayed..eg immigration.. what if I can’t afford the $3200 after flying from say Perth or Darwin for the interview, having lost my job and flat out paying bills etc..

and how how are they dealing with people that have Tcell immunity? No need to quarantine if you’re immune

If the government is designating and mandating then the government should be paying for it! 😡

yes. I feel for those outside of NSW.... even outside Sydney.... I’m feeling genuinely lucky that I am 1 bus stop from Wynyard station.... and can walk from there.... albeit I’m in western Sydney.... I still am

counting my blessings at the moment with the ability to get to the medical

center and to the consulate with relative ease!

Yep! I’m lucky I got in before they changed the rules and made it tougher to cross.

It’s damn near false inprisonment and charging me for the pleasure..

and as for the military trying to detain me as a vet I’d be totally pissed and outraged.. didn’t serve my time for the country to have the military lock me up 🤬

So if you are from Victoria would you be able to fly into NSW, quarantine for 2 weeks, then do your medical and interview? I know that is not ideal because of the cost, but I would rather pay the $3k than wait if that is an option.

Do your medical in Vic, then fly and stay 2 days without the additional cost.. but seems getting authority to leave Vic has gotten harder
