Does anyone know how long after the biometrics appointment you will receive your EAD or AP? I am a bit confused coz I noticed people receive it after 1 month and some after almost 6 months. Just confusing what to expect.

I don't think there is any specific timeline unfortunately, it seems very very random  ... I will most likely never receive mine as the GC should come before !

I was thinking our "batch" is lucky in the sense that we did not have to pay for the new hefty fee for i-765

If full I-485 fee was paid then combo card renewal or replacement is also free. See 8 CFR § 106.2(a)(32)(iv)(A) and 8 CFR § 106.2(a)(7)(iv).

Just found out that the I-131 form now qualifies for a "Case outside normal processing times" inquiry so I submitted an inquiry and hopefully this does something for the EAD as well. At this point I am hoping for the combo card or the green card. I am still patient and keeping positive and hope things will move a bit quicker with the new Administration.

Yes. I did it online and got an email confirmation almost immediately after I hit submit. Hopefully you and Shan181 have some luck too! I am going to start calling because I at least want the EAD for my spouse to start working and SSN for taxes.

I just did a tax estimate for married filing jointly and I am looking at a $7,600 (tax credits and additional stimulus credit) tax refund vs if I file married filing separately, I would only get $3,000. That is a HUGE difference and although I would still be getting a refund either way, I would rather get the larger one. The larger refund will help pay off the remaining debt we have and leave us debt free which will be nice. I am the only breadwinner in the house right now and I though of filing for expedited due to financial hardship but I do have maybe $500 left over each month after expenses and necessities so I don't think they would deem it as a financial hardship.

My wife has a degree in nursing and the equivalency shows that it is a Registered Nurse in the US and the income she could make from that would be very helpful. Also, nurses are needed especially with the pandemic.

At this point, I do not care if the I-485 takes longer. Just give me the combo card and I will hope for the green card not too long after.

How frustrating! 😫 I just submitted an inquiry, hoping it would trigger some update on the EAD case as well. This is the email reply I got:

I believe you can still file jointly whether she has her SSN by then or not. She should be able to apply for an ITIN.
I don't know all the details of that yet, but that's what we plan to do. Still hoping our interview is soon enough that I'll have a SSN by filing deadline. I didn't make any income this year so it makes sense for us to file jointly as well.

I'm an RN too. Feels like such a waste to not be able to contribute to the pandemic response!

All the best! Hopefully she gets biometrics soon.

Yes, that is correct.

But without SSN you cannot claim your Recovery Rebate credit (aka stimulus) of up to $1800. For that you just need to file taxes with the SSN since you already are a resident alien for tax purposes. See the Substantial Presence test (your US entry in March counts towards your Substantial Presence): https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/substantial-presence-test

Our Indianapolis biometrics has been scheduled.

We contacted Indiana Senator Young's office about delays in biometrics for our I-485 and I-765 (Indianapolis ASC). A week later (on 22 Jan 2020), we were scheduled for 8AM in the middle of February. The senator's office emailed us a receipt notice which was for both the I-485 and I-765. Since it was scheduled for 8AM, my guess is that it was manually scheduled or prioritized somehow due to the congressional inquiry. The other possibility is that USCIS suddenly realized what they're doing is illegal and won't be tolerated by the Biden administration, so they've quickly cleaned up their act.

We had also filed service requests on the I-131 and I-765, but got no reply on either. My feeling is that they are unable to reply to service requests as quickly as people are creating them, so nobody is getting responses.

I'm most certainly not a morning person. I think we'll have to leave our house at 5:45 AM. Hopefully the weather won't be too bad. We'd normally just get a hotel room closer, but that's a big risk due to SARS-Cov-2.
