I-765. I already have SSN

Hi,

I am working on campus while I do my masters so I already have a SSN, even though it says something like "Valid for work only with DHS authorization". Now that I am applying for AoS, I see in the latest version of I-765 form that it asks if I want SSA to issue me a social security card.

What I should choose? yes or no? I mean, do I have to get a new SSN card that it's different from the one I already have? Do I receive a different SSN or I will always have this one? This is still a little bit confusing for me.

Thank you

Choose "No." If you choose "Yes" they'll send another card with "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" and the same SSN.

After I-485 is approved, you should go in-person to your local SSA office with the Green Card to get an unrestricted card. That card will have the same SSN and it'll look like this:

Also, for "reason for applying" select "Initial permission" as this is your first request for C09 category EAD.

Ok, I will choose "no". But then, if I keep the SSN card that I have now and I receive my EAD... can I work in any type of job, even outside campus? Even though I am planning to keep my F1 status because I have another course to finish.

Thank you

If you wish to maintain F1 status then don't use the C09 category EAD when you receive it.

Ok, so in the form I choose C09 category right? But I just do not use the EAD until I finish my masters. It that what you meant?

Thank you so much
