So, assuming Vietnam runs true to form I anticipate three months of backlog due to the shutdown and then the roughly standard two months of waiting to get the interview.  Vietnam opens for regular interviews June 29.  That pushes us to late in November/Early December.  Even after this long wait I would really like to push the interview into January to plan to move when my wife's daughter finishes the school year the following May/June.  Plus, assuming COVID settles down a bit I am looking forward to my first trip home to the US this calender year Thanksgiving-New Years.  I normally go 2 weeks every 2 months which gives me a respite from Vietnam which I have been craving daily.  Six months is too long here.

From reading here it seems I should let them schedule the interview whenever they select and only after receiving that date ask them to reschedule to a later date.  Is this correct?

I would be very careful with this strategy with a potential second wave of coronavirus floating around.  Pushing it back one month, could turn into a disaster.

With the EO ban continuing until the end of the year, it may free up availability as well at the embassies to conduct IR1/CR1 interviews faster.

Our other thought is April 28 gets us IR1 instead of CR1 so that is an additional advantage.  We will see.  I really don't want to move back in the middle of winter (to Nebraska), have to buy a new house in a new city, all around Christmas holidays to get my wife's daughter into the proper school district.  Realistically in rural US the COVID thing is not that big of an issue.  Nebraksa really didn't even "shut down" for COVID.

I mean be careful with the strategy from the perspective of your embassy in Vietnam.  A November/December appointment pushed back a month or two could result in a cancellation due to a second wave of Coronavirus, instead of just taking the first appointment scheduled.  Surely as a few months go by you'll get a better feel of the direction of the virus as your appointment looms.

But to answer your first question, yes that's how you reschedule it - let them schedule, then email for a new date.

Ugh, I keep checking the Dublin Embassy to see if they provide any updates on when they might resume interviews. Today they tweeted this:

Quote

Due to precautions and limited resources related to the COVID-19 pandemic, routine visa processing at U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide remains suspended, though the Department is continually evaluating the presence of conditions necessary to resume.

Which is even more frustrating because given that routine visa interviews have started resuming in several countries, we know that this statement is untrue. It's possible they are just posting a generic statement for all Embassies, but I haven't seen any signs that they are resuming, even though Ireland is doing pretty well and moving along to full reopening.

Hi, yes, it is definitely frustrating for just about everyone. Just a few important things to note:

1- No embassies have started routine visa services. We only have reports of embassies resuming CR-1/IR-1 or K-1 cases, either rescheduled from those that were cancelled due to COVID-19 or those that were approved for expedite or considered emergencies. These are mostly CR-1/IR-1, which are not considered routine visa services. On June 17th, the DOS designated these as "mission-critical"-not routine. The worldwide suspension of routine visa services is still in effect.

2-As we have seen from individual reports, quite a few embassies have started scheduling  CR/IR1 appointments over the past week. Only around 3 have updated their FB or webpages. A couple have sent an e-mail reply indicating this. Most have not. Based on this,  you probably won't see any public update. You will most likely be contacted directly by your embassy. When? That will depend on your embassy and how soon they start mission--critical visa processing for the children and spouses of US Citizens and any non-immigrant visas like K-1s or tourist visas.

Just my two cents. I hope it is helpful and I pray you get an interview scheduling e-mail or a call soon.

That's a good point -- I suppose I was taking "routine services" to include CR-1/IR-1, but I did see the declaration of these Visa types to be "mission-critical" which is great for us! I've seen several people here getting UK interviews so I'm hoping Ireland will also resume soon, since they've even been better off than the UK with their infection numbers.

Thanks for the perspective!

A Natural disaster is considered a reason to expedite??? 😁

This morning we just had a pretty nasty earthquake here in Mexico. There all kind of cracks on the walls. A piece of the wall fell off and broke the glass of a table.

I don’t think that is a reason for expedite. Just kidding. I just need to laugh of all this.

I feel you. My mind has gone all kinds of creative in this situation, especially since our visa category is banned but there are these sentences that it's up to DOS to decide on exemptions. Some of my mind wandering included

- In my husbands country the US embassy is closed since January due to security concerns (rocket attacks and such). Humanitarian reason.

- My husband is a health care worker and would be able to work in covid research as clinical lab scientist.

- my citizenship application is pending and I want my husband to attend the oath ceremony (chicken/egg situation - no oath, no visa).

Enough of the jokes - I don't believe anyone will care to be honest.

On a more serious note - I hope everyone is ok? I have never experienced an earthquake but it sounds scary.

Thank you. It is hard all this... I try to keep calm.. there good and bad days.

Thank God everything is fine. Just the impression and the nerves.. I’ve never been in one till today. It was scary.

Did you not submit one to the NVC along with your other documents (before you got documentarily qualified)?

We downloaded ours online from the IRS and submitted those (and will print them out to take to the interview when the time comes).

I submitted to the NVC and got DQ on March, but then the embassy wanted me to submit the recent one..,

how long it take for the IRS to approved ?

When we did it it didn't require any approval on the IRS' part. All we had to do was create an account here: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript and we were able to access and download our transcripts.

Monday, next week. They said they will clear the backlog in two weeks by shortening interviews.

Just to make sure I understand you correct - the petitioner submitted 2018 tax transcripts, you got DQ with a notice that 2019 tax transcripts need to be presented at the interview, is that correct?

First you will need to confirm that 2019 taxes have been filed by the petitioner. If that's done, they can create an online account (if they haven't done so already) and check if the return has been processed. Once it's completed, the 2019 transcript can be downloaded on the IRS website.

If the petitioner filed taxes online, it's usually a quick process. If they did paper filing, there's a huge delay at the moment. We paper filed at the beginning of April because we filed married filing jointly and needed to apply for an ITIN for my spouse and the return isn't processed until this day.
