SSN valid for work only

There is no issue with grammatically. I think most of the confusion comes the use of the word ONLY in the sentence, whereas a simple VALID FOR WORK WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION or use more common language like VALID FOR WORK WITH WORK PERMIT.

 

Legalese are no fun to read and seems to be unclear on purpose.

For the sentence to be read 'VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION'  there would need to be a comma after the word 'only' - that's how you would emphasize the section in bold, to be read in that way. As there's no comma, that means it means it should be read as you've written for your second example.

 

Lots of nonsense can be grammatically correct. There's no comma but the break kinda has a similar effect.

Anyways, at least it's not the Second Amendment interpretation we are arguing about

I agree with “only” confusing it. It could do without the “only”.

Lol yes I think it is the break that got me. If they put the “only” on the second line it might have sounded different.

It depends what state you are. I came to DMV  in my state- Kansas To ask about driving test and they said to me that i need to come with documents that show my changed status. I don’t have SSN. I have a friend from North Carolina, she got her SSN before wedding, but needed to wait for green card to get driver’s license and open bank account. I think here is some banks where you can open bank account without green card.

On a side note, those with this type of SSN - have you been able to sign up for "my social security" on ssa.gov ? I keep getting "not found" errors although im sure the information im entering is accurate.

My wife still has her restricted SS card and she was able to signup on ssa.gov and pull in information.

You can see your past reported earnings and get an estimate of Social Security benefits (as well as get information on if you will qualify for SS and SS-based benefits).
