Montreal Interview

Considering there is talk about still not opening the schools to students in both Canada and the USA (specifically in Colorado and Alberta) I don't think the consulates are opening up soon.

Tell ya what, when my husband quits telecommuting I will let you know.  He works for the FAA which is part of the DOT (department of transportation.)  If their essential jobs go back to somewhat normal vs just fixing broken things, then maybe the DOS may also be going back to somewhat normal.

There have been no updates specific to Montreal. From VJ I know that the consulate in Kuwait has a tentative date of June 22nd to resume visa services, and it seems like the one in Manila wants to resume after the quarantine lifts as they've asked people to contact them to reschedule their appointments once that happens. Since it would appear that it is up to the individual posts, I'd expect that at the very least we'd need to see the state of emergency lifted in Montreal (hopefully soon, they've been extending it by only a few days for weeks now), but I also wouldn't be surprised if they're waiting until Canada's travel restrictions are lifted either.

There are a lot of Canadians waiting for Montreal to reopen, so there will be quite a few posts once it does!

Many places have moved back to more routine if ‘normalcy’. Either way, things need to start moving. They’ll need to figure out something out other than wait a year before opening. Maybe virtual appointments? I just wonder with Trumps EO, if there’s an impact in the backlog for interviews, and what not.

Potentially there could be a reduction if they resume interviews before it ends but the reality is his eo did very little to restrict visas. It was mostly chain migration visas that were affected if I recall correctly.

MTL consulate was taking 153 days on an average from DQ to Interview as per @HawkRiders before closure due to COVID-19. I am afraid this closure might add another 60-90 days on top of that. One have to wait 6-9 months for a spousal visa interview.

I hope this is not the case and they come up with a practical solution to reduce this long wait.

According to Quebec’s reopening plan, it seems like Montreal is near or at phase 5, even though it’s been opening at a slower pace than rest of the areas in Quebec.

Shopping malls in Montreal are opening this week and food courts will open in Montreal next week.

Hopefully the embassy will provide an update re: their plans soon.

I also emailed the consulate and asked if they will be extending the time that medical examinations are valid for, as it has to be valid until you enter the US after the interview. Apparently they won't be extending? 🤷 So it looks like we may have to redo the medical once interviews resume?
