Proving a bona fide marriage when living apart?

We aren’t engaged yet but we are concerned about our options. If I go over to my boyfriend’s country and we get married there after a couple of weeks, then will that look like marriage fraud? The issue is that I don’t have much work experience (I’ve been caring for sick parents for quite a few years), and I know that I need time to gather supporting documents for the affidavit of support. So I can only visit him for short periods of time, otherwise I could lose my job. Additionally, there’s not a lot of extra money to be spent on flights back and forth to his country.  After the last thread I posted in, I’m less and less certain of his ability to get a visa to come here and visit too.

I also considered maybe moving there for a couple of months early next year, so we could lease an apartment together. But again, there’s the financial issue that if I don’t have a job, I won’t be able to sponsor him. We’ve had a long distance relationship for three years, and will only have had a brief few weeks together in total. Any advice? For couples who live overseas together, how do the finances for sponsorship work out?

The sponsorship issue arises at the Consulate Interview, now it takes a long time to get that for so you have plenty of time to visit. You will want to have your job fora few months? certainly more than a few weeks to show that this is likely to last.

Thank you for responding. What if I get a job now, and am unable to take off enough time to spend with him? Should I visit him a few times before getting married?

You have visited once? If so I would visit at least a second and then yiou can file and make sure you build up a work history.
