LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — A active-duty soldier at Fort Leavenworth is being hailed a hero for intervening and ending an active shooting on the Centennial Bridge Wednesday morning, police saying his actions saved multiple lives.

“There was an active-duty soldier assigned to Ft. Leavenworth waiting in traffic behind the event, saw the event unfold, determined it was an active shooter and intervened by striking the shooter with his vehicle, causing him to be critically injured, ending the encounter with the active shooter and likely saving countless lives,” Chief Kitchens said.

Right now I have a ton of leftovers from tonight -- I made a two-hour-simmered mushroom bolognese with penne rigate. So probably no sandwiches tomorrow. Friday is bread-baking day. I'm going to make both a loaf of white bread and some focaccia.

update on what happened
It’s unclear why the suspect, of Platte County, Missouri, started firing, but he was armed with at least a handgun and a semi-automatic rifle as he started firing randomly at cars on the bridge after getting out of his vehicle

the shooter sure picked the wrong time and place.  the guy in the military is a senior nco - a MP,/corrections officer with SRT/active shooter training, he's from mt vernon ohio and joined the army in 2005
