Try all of them - hotwire, orbitz, kayak, expedia... Pick the cheapest.

If you are young enough, STA travel has young/student priced one-way tickets that are often very cheap (and changable).

Be flexible about the US city you fly into - planning ahead, you can often connect very cheaply on JetBlue/Southwest with a separate one-way ticket.

Good luck.

Google: "cheap airfare" and select a few websites. You'll have to spend a little while plugging in different days and cities, but you should be able to find a pretty good fare. Russ made an excellent point, fly in to the cheapest city and catch a connection on a discount-fare airline. Odds are good you can connect one-way to about any major airport for around $100. No more than $250, tops!

Since you don't want AeroSvit, the only other direct flight from KBP to JFK is Delta... All others will require a connection somewhere.

YMMV

Mine always said "If you are always early, you are never late"

Of course, by taking me aside to tell me this, I was typically then late for something else...

Kayak has reasonable prices but somehow it directs me directly to the specific airline site and then the price changes drastically.

I am young but not a student :P Late late late 20's ;)

Actually the ticket is for my fiance. He lives in Israel but before moving to USA he wants to visit his grandma in Ukraine, Lviv who got very sick so we're looking for one way tickets from Lviv to JFK. I saw some of the Delta direct flights from Kiev but their prices went up in the price compare to couple of days ago. I also saw a reasonable price with LOT airline that makes a stop in Warsaw Poland. It's funny that from Kiev-Warsaw-JFK it's about $600, from Lviv-Warsaw-JFK is about $656 and Warsaw-JFk is close to $2000.00. It is very convenient for him to fly out of Lviv-Warsaw-JFK because from Lviv to Poland is about 20 min flight since it's about 1hr of driving distance. I just thought that maybe we can find even a better deal :)

$600 this time of year is actually very good, I wouldn't waste my time trying to find anything cheaper. Go ahead and book that now.

I can't book that ticket for him since he's not sure how long he'll stay in Ukraine for sure. He didn't buy the tickets to fly there yet but will buy it anyday now and plans to go there next friday. He told me he wants to spend about 2 weeks there but if god forbid his grandma will get worse then he'll stay longer otherwise he's thinking sometimes in mid july to come here. He didn't get his passport with visa yet and it's been sent out to him only today, so that's why he didn't buy the tickets to go to Ukraine yet, cause he's waiting for his passport. I just hope that by the time he'll tell me for sure when he's coming those tickets are still available on LOT and if not he'll have to go by aerosvit but as of right now it's our last resort since I heard too many horror stories about that airline.

Has anyone heard of a new airline in Ukraine/Russia called something like Spirit? My mother's boss bought that airline in Ukraine and she offered me to look up prices on that airline but i didn't find anything.

Spirit is a discount airline here in the U.S. that rivals Jet Blue, Southwest, etc., and has recently moved to Europe to rival Ryanair as the discount leader. From what I've heard on NPR they're doing quite well at ensuring the prices stay low across much of Europe. I don't have any direct experience with these airlines, but I know you can Google both of their websites and plug-in destinations. Worth a shot.

There may be airlines on both continents with same or similiar names but the US based Spirit Airlines is not in Europe as it has only recently expanded its reach into South America.

YMMV
