Hi. I was told by a travel agent that after my fiance receives her fiance visa and she travels to America so we can get married then my fiance will be required to show the customs agent in America a round trip airplane ticket before she can enter America because she will have only a temporary fiance visa and the customs agent will require her to show that she has a return date to her original country because the visa is temporary and not permanent. Is this true?

Can someone tell me if I should by a round trip ticket or a one way ticket?

Also I am having trouble locating a airplane ticket departing from Brazil. Can anyone give me some cheap websites to buy airplane tickets departing from Brazil?

Or, can I buy a round trip airplane ticket for her departing from America and then returning to America even though she will not use the departing ticket, she will use only the returning ticket? Is this possible? Thanks.

nessa arranged our plane tickets, hers originating in brazil. it was round trip but not sure if it was due to it being cheaper than a one way or not. best bet is to have her make the reservations and such like nessa did, i sent her the money to pay for such, i picked up my part of the ticket here in the states and it cost something like $50 or less for us to do it that way.

the last part - i asked the same question before and was told that the airlines may well cancel the entire ticket if the first part isn't used.

I have a one-way ticket on hold with American Airlines on hold for my SO. It is about the same price as a round trip ticket.

I had originally inquired about a round trip ticket. I mentioned to the agent that my SO did not intend to use the return portion. The agent told me that since I told him that, he was forbidden to book a round trip ticket.

Additionally, he said that since I was purchasing a one-way ticket, my SO needs to show that he has documents to show that he is legally able to reside in the United States. I told him about the K-1 visa and the agent said that was ok.

Don't listen to that travel agent.............

If it was a tourist visa, yes a roundtrip ticket is required.

For your fiance visa a one way or roundtrip ticket is good..... Go with the cheapest which is usually the roundtrip. You just won't use the return portion of it.

Your travel agent is WRONG. You can get one way or round trip, doesn't matter, just get what's cheaper for you.

I'm thinking it will be easier for me to find a 1 way ticket to brazil and then 2 one way tickets back to America. If I buy 1 round trip ticket for me and then 1 one way ticket for my fiance then I think it may be hard to assure we will depart Brazil on the same airplane.

My question is will the customs agent allow me to enter brazil if I fly to brazil on a one way ticket and then will be departing brazil using a one way ticket. Will the customs agent require I have a round trip ticket or will a one way ticket to and from brazil be okey. Thanks.

It was much cheaper for my husband to buy a round trip than a one way ticket.

The travel agent did ask me if my husband has a visa to come from Brazil and I mentioned to her that he was emigrating here. But really, it isn't any of her business - she just sells the tickets.

But she is also Brazilian and wasn't being rude or nosy so I didn't make a big deal out of it.

I have bought tickets at the American Airlines website departing from Brazil, easily done. Usually round-trip is cheaper than one way, so you can buy two round trips, one originating in US and one originating in Brazil, for you to come and your fiancee to go back with you. If you check the flight numbers when doing that you can guarantee you'll be in the same flight.

I bought a round trip. I bought them all in Brazil so I could travel with Charles. He came USA-BR (Curitiba) then we flew to Rio for the interview, flew back to Curitiba, flew from BR-USA all in the same plane (I mean we both in the same plane, seats together :P )

But the reason I bought round trip was because it was cheaper, you can buy only a way-one, it doesn't matter.

Okey everyone, thanks for all your help. Sorry if I seem redundant but sometimes your answers confused me a bit so I'll ask again. ;) Let me see if I understand this.

1) I can buy 1 one way ticket for me to depart America and arrive in Brazil?

2) Then I can buy 2 one way tickets for me and my fiance to depart Brazil and arrive in America?

3) It is okey for me to purchase 1 one way tickets to enter brazil as long as I can show the customs agent I also have 1 one way ticket to return to America? (I ask this because I remember on my last trip the customs agent or the airport lady or a form I had to fill out, (I don't remember), asked me if I had a return flight also.

4) It is okey for me to purchase 1 one way ticket for my fiance to enter America and she will not need to show the America customs agent proof of a return flight to Brazil even though my fiance will only have a fiance visa and will be in a temporary visa status?

Thanks alot for all of your help!!!

1 and 3 - it makes no sense you're buying separate tickets, 1 to go and 1 to come back, you'll be spending way more money by doing that. Yes it,s possible, it's just nonsense. Why don't you buy a round trip for you and a 1 way ticket on the same flight back for your fiancee?

2 and 4 - your fiancee will be on a K1 visa, it's a fiancee visa, she is immigrating to the United States, that means she's coming to stay, why would she need to have a return ticket if she's coming to stay, if she can't even leave the country before she adjust status unless she wants to drop her case? So YES she can buy a 1 way ticket

First part - I was thinking about buying one way tickets because my fiance emailed me a Brazilian airline ticket website, (http://www.submarinoviagens.com.br/), and I was doing some checking and compared to the airport company prices (Ex. United and American) the prices on the airline websites (http://www.submarinoviagens.com.br/) are much cheaper. The only problem is that it is difficult to find coordinating flights using the airline websites if I buy a round trip ticket for me and then a one way ticket for my fiance. Using www.cheapoair.com and www.submarinoviagens.com.br I have found one way tickets for me and my fiance for about $3000.00 when you convert the R's to $'s. I contacted United and American and they quoted me a price of about $5000 for a round trip for me and a one way for my fiance. Is the $5000 a normal price or do you get your tickets cheaper than this at the airport companies? I only want to make sure the one way tickets will work for us before I buy the tickets on the airline websites.

Second part - I was under the impression that if a person travels to another country as a temporary resident, (which a fiance visa is), then you are required to show a return date so the customs agent will know you aren't going to stay in the country illegally. Does this apply to only tourists visa and not fiance visa's?

Thanks for your help.

I think a half dozen or so different people have previously mentioned that your first impression on part two was wrong as it relates to a k-1 visa.
