Hello,

We are nearly ready to submit our K-1 visa application and I’m wondering if anyone has tips or tricks for us that might be helpful?
I’m feeling a little discouraged, we will be filing in Lagos (our only option) and in nearly 2 years have only spent 1 week together in person. Any positivity or advice for us is greatly appreciated.
thank you 🙏🏻

Double and triple check your forms.....make sure you check  all the boxes  that applies to you page 8-10 .

Arrange you evidence  in a way that it tells a story, how you both fit into eachothers day (communication and Plans)

yes you guys met only once....but you can still send it off and meet again before the interview. Also make sure the evidence you submitting are not just pictures...you need boarding passes ....receipts etc.

Sign and date the form and all attachments!!!

You definitely need to see him again before the interview!!

Reeeaaalllyy suggest more time spent together. You have a high chance of denial otherwise.

@CoriandPhilemon Good luck!🌟 Organize everything in a way that makes it easy to follow and understand as @Sparkle Sparkle suggested. Don’t forget to sign the form either lol Also, check the lockbox filing tips on the USCIS website. Definitely try to squeeze in another trip before the interview.

Just for clarity, do Nigerians still have chances on k1 visa approval? Regards to the immigrant ban placed since February 2020...  just asking to know better! Cheers

Yes, Nigerians can still be approved for a K1. The EO from February was for immigrant visas K1 is non immigrant visa. There is a thread on here for that ban if you would like further information.

Any chance that you can get a trip in before the interview?  Lagos is focused on time spent together.

It will be very difficult but we will try! The expense is enormous. 😭

Yup.  We spent thousands and thousands of dollars on air tickets in the 3 years before we filed.

Tell me about it and the air fare is just a portion of the expenses.

The joys of an international relationship. OP would probably save money in the long run if she visited again considering most K1s with Nigeria with 1 visit result in a denial.

Yes, we are hoping to get another trip in. If we file and our K-1 is, in fact, denied, what are the stipulations for refilling?

There’s certain countries with high fraud. Sadly Africa is one mainly Morocco and Nigeria. Try to visit again probably when everything is in the NVC stage. a little bit before the interview and y’all can be together to gather documents for it.

Good luck and have faith even when there’s negative comments, conflicting information. :)

You will have to get married and file a CR1- still would recommend more face time. You can not appeal a k1 denial; it is essentially dead.

Edited to add: I am in no way trying to be negative or deter you. It's just we see it here so often certain countries that it's a no brainer when more face time is needed. Since you are new to the process I think it would be best for you to do your best you can to present a strong relationship when you unfortunately, through no fault of your own & just for the country he is from, will have an uphill battle to fight. Please check out the Nigeria message boards too to connect with people who have gone through the K1 process with Nigeria. https://www.visajourney.com/portals/index.php?country=Nigeria read about their experiences and what they recommend. It's already so emotionally draining and financially draining (not to mention when politics is added as well) to be in a long distance/international relationship that no one wants to be dragged down even more with a denial or more time and money "wasted". Just remember what we all think of as "faster" isn't necessarily "better."

You should not be thinking of denial now... Try and make the I-129f count... Give it your best shot... Give a good presentation of your relationship to someone that does not know both of you in a way he or she will understand.
