Had my interview today and was recommended for approval. Interview went fine, although the officer had a heavy accent which was difficult to understand. My status on the USCIS website has updated to "Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled". Yay!

Good day Everyone, need some advises please:

I’m scheduled for an interview for July 29th at the Houston field office, if all goes well my understand is that sometime in August the oath ceremony would therefore be scheduled. My issue is that I had schedule a trip overseas departing Sept 1st for 2 weeks and I don’t believe I would ever get a passport on time even with the fast processing and I can’t re-enter the US with the naturalization certificate. I know we can reschedule the oath but if the second date falls during my time abroad I’m at risk of having my application withdrawn... so at this point is it better to reschedule the interview for a further date so that I don’t miss the oath ceremony? Or better to do the interview as scheduled and rescheduled the oath, possibly 2 times ?? I know you won’t provide me with legal advises but what would you do ?? :( thanks a lot (I can’t postoned this trip)

Do not reschedule interview. With COVID right now, you will come to regret it. Interviews are a blessing during this COVID era.

You can renter the US with the PP that you already have. Having attended N400 interview does not mean that you can only re-enter with US PP.

Most likely your oath will be 3 weeks later. You should be back by then.

@COYG! came back the night before the oath and successfully did the oath ceremony. Check the previous page. That is where his/her post regarding this is at.

I strongly agree with NYBEtt. Apply for a passport in person at a passport agency after your oath, and before you travel.

There is a chance. Squeezing one extra person won't hurt. I've read it here that some VJers got to know of oath ceremony happening while interviewing and asked IO who were kind enough to sneak them in.

On another note @UnaMexicana how far have you got with biometrics/ interview?

Hi @Timona,

I posted an update in June 2020 group (I submitted June 30 2020, received notification July 1, so I usually post in both groups).

BIometrics done (I'm SFR office). Received email saying "an action had been taken on my case" but I check the USCIS account and nothing.

I am waiting for the interview... And preparing for the questions. My case says 12 months to completion and processing time in SFR is currently at 19 mos.

All that to say. .. patiently waiting!

Thanks,

UnaMexicana

Double check carefully under "case history." There may be some notations there. A lot of people say they don't see anything.

I know someone from SFR who got interviewed before 19 months. Maybe it's because she changed address and it triggered something on USCIS 🤔? Because right after address change, baaam interview notice a week later. Maybe add a new or redundant document under "other document." Someone here claimed it might have triggered something on their end. Try it.

I won't pay attention to case completion time. Mine says 14 months though I have my interview in 2 weeks.

It all depends on your local office. And from what I see, there doesn't seem to be a formula for how oath ceremonies are scheduled either. I would say look at the VJ timelines for folks in your field office and see how things play out. That's the best data we have.

Hello everyone. Still waiting for my interview to be scheduled, had my biometrics done a month ago in Charlotte, NC.

I am a bit concerned about upcoming travels starting in September. As long as I have a GC, I don't have any problems and am able to travel. Problem will be after my oath ceremony where I will have to turn it in. Passport applications, even expedited ones are taking close to 12 weeks from what I heard due to backlog. That would leave me at least 3 months without being able to leave the country. Hopefully its not the case.

Has anyone else thought about this?

Yap. I came to learn this the hard way today. I also have international travel at the end of this month. Seems I won't be able to get PP by then. Only choice is to travel with GC, then come back for oath.
