JUNE 2020 K-1 NOA2 to NVC to EMBASSY

Hi, when we filled out the DS-160 we used the NVC Case Number in the field where they asked for the USCIS reference number. I assumed this was what we needed to use since in all forums it sounded like the NVC case number was needed before filling out the DS160.

Was this a mistake on our end and if so should we proactively try to correct? Or is the NVC case number ok since it's linked to our USCIS receipt number?

Thank you in advance

If the form took your case number and did not return an error message, then I would think you are safe. This is just an opinion.

This thread was created for those who are waiting for their NOA2 K-1 case assignment from NVC and then tracking your case on wards to your Embassy.  Contained in the PDF below are many tips, tricks, and hacks to help you along the way.

These are items that everyone asks for, so I thought I just post a PDF of them here for you to refer to when it's necessary. If you are new to this thread, please use the link below to read the information which are answers to the most asked questions.

Hey Greenbaum and crew-

the NVC is not answering either of the phone numbers on the google drive. Is there another way to contact them? How will I know when the NVC received our petition? I just moved apt, and while I had my mail forwarded, the Post office near me is a bit of a mess right now and I'm worried if NVC sent me something it didn't make it through.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone!

Here is my best advice. If you received an approval from USCIS then your file will take  about 30 days from approval to travel to NVC. Then NVC will assign your case number 2 to 3 weeks latter. It's rare that a file is "lost". Trust the process and your mileage may vary. I spelled this out in great detail in the PDF.

Do you think we should follow up with anybody at the NVC or USCIS about this? Our case number should be associated with the receipt number and we really thought it was the case number that was required here. We are worried that this might jeopardize our visa because of some technicality.

The DS-160 is looking for the USCIS receipt number, not the NVC case or invoice number. You can just fill the form out again.

Please keep in mind that you would have to really screw something up to be disqualified for a K-1 visa. You would have had to of given some false information on your I-129f, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) or lied to the CO at your interview to be denied a visa. So now you should put that out of your head and just relax and do what you have control over.

the DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application is looking for your USCIS receipt number from your NOA2.

Has anyone got approval in June 2020 and had any news from NVC

I did reach out to NVC by filling out the form online to ask for the case#  and received the email that they don't have it yet.
Our date range for the approval notice is 06/16/202- 10/15/2020 so I'm just curious if anyone saw anything moving recently?

I believe the embassy that my Fiancé will have the interview is open.

I still haven't called the NVC like listed on the trick and tips pdf.

Your first question is confusing. What approval. NOA1 or NOA2?

What news were you expecting from NVC? Again, too vague to answer.

If you received your NOA2 in June, then NVC should have your case number. You should call and determine if indeed they do have a case number and the invoice number.

We can't say if your embassy is open as you have yet to complete your profile.

We need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Once you finish that then return and you will see a flag in your profile. Select it and see what wonderful information will open up for you.

Thanks

Thanks

Sorry,

I got into the topic for NOA2 so I assumed it's clear that that's what I got.

I am still waiting for the NVC number so we can trace the case at the embassy in Serbia.

I will give them a call, thanks!
I was just wondering if anyone else that got NOA2 approval in June 2020 has heard from the NVC and the consulate for scheduling the interview for K1?

@petridza

I was approved in June. We got our case and invoice numbers 7 weeks afterwards. I called a couple of times per week after the fifth week.

Because most embassies are not processing non-expedited cases you will most likely be waiting at NVC.

As I understand it all depends on the embassy status of the beneficiary's home country. Another member recently shared a very useful link: https://www.ustraveldocs.com/

There you can check almost all embassy's current status. Some US embassies abroad are processing certain visa types already.

I'm on the call with them right now, this is the first time calling. It's been 70days since we got NOA2 approval and I'm getting anxious.

Thank you! Yes I did check, our location in Serbia is currently processing visas and is also not on the quarantine list for United States.
