Are cases still just sitting at the NVC? Or are they actually getting sent to embassies now?

I've understood this is highly dependent on local embassy conditions. For example, the US Embassy in Manila hasn't been processing K1 interviews since March 2020, so there is a huge backlog of cases sitting at NVC.  The only exceptions I've seen are for fiancés with active duty military partners or US citizen children.

Still no NOA2 for us, so we've submitted an outside processing time request. It's hard not to wonder what could possibly be holding up our approval, but I choose not to worry so much about things outside our control. We also choose to look at the positives: I'm visiting the US next month!

One of the requirements for consular processing is a police report from any country other than their home country the Beneficiary has spent a year or more in.

Do these reports have to be ordered within any specific time relative to the  K1 interview even though there has been no subsequent travel to those Countries ?

I'm asking because we requested reports from two Countries a couple of months ago and they are ready to be picked up at their respective Embassies, but I'm wondering if the US embassy will require more recent dates on them.

Secondly,

Does anyone know how far in advance the Beneficiary can request a police report from her own country relative to an expected interview date ?

We have been trying to get some things done in advance like gathering the the DS-160 information,  getting vaccinations and paperwork together, etc.

Thank You

Chris

As long as he or she didn’t go back to those countries, those police certificates don’t have an expiration date. Plus, they’re already ready so there’s already probably a date on them (either the date you requested them or date they produced them). I don’t think it matters if you pick them up today or a day before the interview.

You should check the embassy website for more details but generally those are valid for 6 months.

Wow that's really nice that you are able to visit. Did you obtain a Tourist visa for that ?

I think your patience will be rewarded. Excuse my speculation but I remember that during all the Furlough talk last year I learned that USCIS had been using Contractors to do the first pass on petitions. Knowing that and seeing the order in which petitions have been adjudicated gives me the impression that it's more of a batch process that only roughly follows case number.

Maybe someone else with more experience can chime in about this.

Best of Luck

According to travel.state.gov they’re actually valid for 12 months. If the embassy doesn’t state otherwise then it’s 12 months.

I was born in India but was 17when moved to Canada in 2004, I am a Canadian citizen. Would I still need one from India? They don’t issue police clearance for non resident Indians...

Thanks. Yes, got my tourist visa before the pandemic.

I agree with your theory too.

I take back what I said earlier, if it’s unavailable, then there’s no way you can obtain it. It says so on travel.state.gov reciprocity schedule when you click on India.

NOA2- Feb1

NVC # I got in email today.
So can I go ahead and apply for the DS-160?

Is your consulate up and processing K-1s? If not, I’d hold off filling it out.

What is the consequence of filing if they’re not yet? Would you be earlier in some queue if you did it as soon as possible? If we should wait until the consulate is processing, should we as petitioners take any action in the interim. I’m thinking like every four months or so submitting updated intent letters? Or am I overthinking it?
